Updates
I pride myself on keeping my server updated. Lately, after the first update, I see a lot of people joining, but never spawning. I watched my console to see that they don't have matching class tables. Which means they haven't updated. Unfortunately, not everyone comes to this site every day to see if there are updates to the game. Now, when I was new to gaming and I loaded a mod that didn't work the first time, I never went back to it. Or at least that server..... In any case, to surmise my rambling, when someone tries to join a server with a different client, they need to see the reason why they can't join, not some arcane message that doesn't mean anything to the lay person. This is hurting the game.

This is sad. There are a lot of people who may have downloaded Fortress Forever, but are unaware of the latest patch. This only splits the community like ETF 1.5 beta did.

1.2 priority IMO: some kind of in-game news system (based on RSS) that tells you news from the FF site (i.e. "Community Map Pack 2 released! Click here to open a browser window that will take you to download options").
Basic setup with options like any aggrigator (archive old poasts, be able to pull all past poasts down from the server, etc.). |
Solution: CrosuS

Having it built in means people always see the news whether they have CrosuS or not. CrosuS would still be very, very useful for actual file distribution, but this option would be better for the news. |

Maybe this can bloat the file but at least a lot more people will be using it! |

http://fortress-forever.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=12996 Carry on with the thread otherwise. d: I wish that engine level stuff could be worked around saying "GET THE 1.1 PATCH NAO!" |
The other problem with putting CroSus in the installer, is that you still need to actually register with them for the program to work.

ignore crosus for a second, could this be bastardized to the same effect?
http://www.brainless.us/downloads.aspx?cid=1 granted, you would need a permanent host(s) for the content, but it would kind of give you the same effect as being a regular steam game. |
