Tshirts, revisited

srsly. I want to be that guy wearing the FF Tshirt. Mostly I wanted to bring this idea back after thinking about promoting FF at LAN parties; having some uniform shirts to wear would make FF supporters stand out quite alot better. Looky here:

http://www.customink.com/temp/savepr...mple2front.jpg
http://www.customink.com/temp/savepr...imple2back.jpg

http://www.customink.com/designs/ffs...&cm_ite=design

It's simple, black goes with every color, and the grenade on the back reminds everyone of why this is not TF2.

With customink.com at a group rate they would cost about $16 each, and probably a few bucks more individually.

Discuss: legal concerns, money concerns, fashion concerns...

EDIT: Yes, I know that the page format makes it look like the bottom shirt-model-dude is stuck up into the top shirt-model-dude's ass. Get over it.

I think this is a great idea, although you might want to add something like "a HL2 Mod" just so people know what FF is.

Money - probably not a problem as long as it's not "official" but need to check with the devs on this, which ties into legal concerns.

Finally Fashion concerns I see none! I would wear it (asside from the head ass thing).

The shirt looks great.

Dev's/the FF site can't really have association with any money transactions.

Somebody in the community would have to do this.

If you are, for some reason, unable to write on the back, then write it on the front underneath the logo. That would look much better, I think. Could we see something like that?

I thought of that, but decided that keeping it simple took priority. Also, I think the grenade on the back says everything that needs to be said--there is fragging. That alone should be enough to get the right people interested and get them to follow the web address.

Ya. And no profiting, of course, because then the IRS would get a boner. But creating a middle-man in the community would be a lot of trouble..organizing payment, shipping, deadbeats ordering a shirt and then changing their mind...it might be better worth it to do them individually. Is that how ETF's shirts are? Mullet knows about this, I thinks.

I think it looks really good as is, and, having the name right on the front would attract more attention than just a random picture that uninformed people have never seen before.

See, now the back is starting to look like a web page. I feel like there should be an HTML link on the front logo, with a message that says "Turn this person around to enter fortress-forever.com"
The huge logo on the chest looks nice, but it's still only impressive to people who already recognize it.

Also, saying "Half Life 2" on a custom shirt might be dangerous legally.

On that last bit, I don't think so. Mostly because you are not defaming the product, nor are you using the HL2 logo. It is simply a statement of fact, and I doubt Valve would have a hissy-cow about it.
We could, of course, ask them.

I like the Logo on front, with "Fortress Forever" below the FF logo, with the other info(and the grenade) on the back.
I'd buy one!

Edit: Something else, it's also a "psuedo advertisement" for HL2, since you need to own it(or another Source game)....and it's not costing Valve anything.

Johnny Mullet 01-22-2008 02:12 AM

I would wear it!

Now that is what I am talking about. A lot more stylish.

The frag grenade is nice, but there are so many more iconic things one could pick for the back that are not in nearly every first person shooter ever.

What about a conc, or a SG? Or a flag, even!

Ooh ooh ooh the FF neutral Flag! Or... something.

You're still not considering that people won't recognize this stuff. A conc looks like..nothing...a flag makes no indication that FF is even a PC game, and an SG isn't a very recognizable visual form.

The purpose of a Tshirt promotion is not to inform people of everything immediately, because the nature of clothing worn by random people only allows for a very little bit of information. Hence, the purpose of Tshirt promotion must be to use that little bit of information to hook people in, and induce them to find out more, whether it be by asking the shirt-wearer or just following the web address later.

The words "Fortress Forever" with a frag grenade calls out to all people interested in fragging, saying "Here is a new game! Grenades! Find out more!"

-Joker

P.S. Also, guys...learn to summarize your quotes.
This: http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...tons/quote.gif
replicates everything from a looong post, and that's just wasting space.

BinaryLife 01-22-2008 02:46 AM

I was always worried about the legality of the situation. Although the shirt doesn't use the Source SDK, so I would presume that you're fine.

I like the second one...as do the 4 non PC gamers I asked (friends yes, but none of them play PC games). I also agree that the nade is a good symbol, but I think we could probably get something cooler to...what about a sick colage of all the player classes? I bet Ghostbuster could make something REALLY cool!

I agree completely.

Instead of the Frag grenade, you could choose from one of the many Pain/Death series pics. I like the Gazelle the most, so here:

פֿяαιп βαмαgεפ 01-22-2008 02:43 PM

I vote for 2 versions:

1) The first one
2) Just the logo in the front w/o "fortress forever" and the grenade at the back with "forterss-forver.com" benath it, the one Private_Joker posted looks crowded @ the back.

BinaryLife 01-22-2008 02:45 PM

Throwing a minor point out there. Valve isn't concerned with defamation so much as they are concerned that you would be profiting off of their work. If any argument could be legally made that those shirts are selling because of valve then they could very easily sue you for your profits and their losses which they could chalk up to be almost whatever they wanted. ...assuming they sell t-shirts somewhere.

Dr.Satan 01-22-2008 03:04 PM

Yep...that's why we wouldn't sell them, but instead get every member who wants one to buy them at the same time...then we *might* be able to get a group member deal thingy. Totally agree that no one would be able to sell them w/out express consent from Valve.
