Palermo

I don't know if the creator's name is mentioned in the splash screen for that map and I haven't taken the time to look it up in the site blogs....but I have to say that you are my hero. Palermo is, hands down, my absolute favorite map. kudos to you!

It's Zouave.

Zouave, the mighty god of AvD maps :D

Seriously, his AvD and ID maps for TFC were by and large the best out there. Ksour, Cornfield, Osaka and cmhf to name just a few others. All great maps :)

Ihmhi 06-05-2008 04:13 AM

Fuck someone make Osaka already. ):

GeoKill-----> 06-05-2008 04:42 AM

Palermo is my favorite map as well. When both teams have a solid D and a good O, its really fun. Cornfield is fun too.

Ginger Lord 06-05-2008 09:09 AM

Palermo is horrible.

Lies.

Just make the Capture Zone lower so you actually have to touch the CP to capture, making it easier for Demomen to pipe jumpers, and it's good to go.

Another thing is that you don't like AvD, because Palermo is one of the most popular AvD maps (in TFC, because FF only has 3 or 4 AvD maps...)

Ginger Lord 06-05-2008 10:08 AM

I say its horrible because the lighting is god awful, the map is unfinished and I have no idea how it was let in because I know a few of the team were against putting it in when v1.0 came around.

Innoc 06-05-2008 01:43 PM

Never noticed the lighting. Honestly, I am more focused on the gameplay and the layout of the map. I like the flow of the map particularly when you have a couple of decently balanced teams. If the lighting is the only complaint isn't that pretty minor? Seriously, some of the best games ever haven't always been the prettiest of their generation.

Then sorry for my misunderstanding of your words (my statement/suggestion is still up though). And as Innoc said, if the map flows right not much people will stand there to see how awful the lighting is, or how there are some spots that are not finished. Yes, this helps the mod giving a professional look to the map to new players, but most people would like a good round on a dev textured map (orange and grey) than playing in an amazing map but that offers poor gameplay (of course, a good game on an amazing map is the best choice =D)

look at the popularity of the orange maps in TF2

Lighting is easily noticeable with the lousy fps that the map has. But there are other things causing it too. This is being discussed in beta now how it should be fixed up, etc.

FooL 06-05-2008 08:17 PM

Trust me, I have the source files and the lighting is all levels of wrong.

Now to decide to put the correct lighting in, which makes it rather dim, or a new bright sky and brighter lighting.

Pon 06-05-2008 08:22 PM

I think what Ginger is trying to say is that the sky and the lighting used don't match up, not that it's not bright enough or whatever.

While not a big problem I guess (to me at least, when playing I don't really notice it), it might look better if they did match.

That said, were I asked, I'd prefer the sky was changed to match the light, and not the light changed to match the sky :)

ya

Ginger Lord 06-05-2008 08:27 PM

Unfortunatly theres no obnoxious yellow/green skies so I'm replacing the lighting and sky with a realistic set with a similar if not brighter light level.

chilledsanity 06-05-2008 08:38 PM

Here's a thread I made a while ago on the problems with Palermo:

Basically the lighting's off as is the sun, and skybox. Unless you've played it a whole bunch of times (which I have by now), it's pretty confusing to navigate.

Ginger Lord 06-05-2008 08:56 PM

How about some CZ2 like lasers into the sky?
