State of the Union

I was just watching this and I'm curious what people think on Obama saying that gays are now allowed to serve.

Iggy 01-26-2011 02:30 AM

Not allowing gays to serve in the military, and allowing child molesters to be priests..... there's just something wrong with that.

Women aren't allowed in combat, gays aren't either..... so how is the platoon supposed to get a blow-job for good luck before a mission?!

Ok, all kidding aside, just because someone is gay doesn't mean they are going to try and proposition someone else in their unit. They won't be staring at you in the shower, nor playing grab-ass behind the barracks. Thinking that crap will happen is just homophobic tripe.

GenghisTron 01-26-2011 02:39 AM

When you have a cold, 2 minute shower in an area where your life and limb are in immediate danger, I think the last thing a homosexual is worrying about, is making a move on his straight squad members. In fact, there's more stories about gays being exposed and being beat within an inch of their lives in the military, than there is of homosexuals suddenly coming out of the closet and raping straight dudes. The entire anti-gay integration in the military is nothing more than a misinformation campaign.

FACT: Gays already serve in the military with no problem, and with the repeal of DADT, it will remain that way.

As for the State of the Union... I don't get why people take that seriously. Actions speak louder than words, and it amazes me that people take stock in the words of politicians after millions of instances of them being nothing more than crooks. Instead of gathering around the TV when 'leaders' give speeches, how about we gather around a newspaper or internet site and hold politicians accountable for their words.

Oh wait, what's that Sarah Palin said what?

Bridget 01-26-2011 02:44 AM

We're making progress. Now gays can die for the State openly.

BinaryLife 01-26-2011 01:18 PM

I agree that actions speak louder than words as well. It's nice to see him say what his intentions are so that we can later show clips of him not doing them on TV.

But as far as gays in the military go, yeah, as everyone's been saying they've already been there. I think the next big civil rights movement is going to be for equal rights and there are way too many people who don't get that homosexuals are people just like the rest of us.

In the military, men stare at women in the shower and play grab ass anytime they can. Dorms are like circa 1970s college campuses. So I don't know why gays wouldn't act that way in the open.

FrenchToast 01-26-2011 10:08 PM

Apparently because you've never met a gay person.

unbankthx 01-27-2011 02:54 AM

Yea gay people are pretty crazy. They go about and just start raping people willy nilly. We need to protect the straight people from the very serious homo threat.

Bridget 01-27-2011 02:55 AM

The punchline to every joke is Canada.

FrenchToast 01-27-2011 04:06 AM

Sigh, the internet depresses me.

Bridget 01-27-2011 09:49 AM

Deal with it, nerd.

Absolute fail.

Maybe you have only met very conservative gays who don't play around or kiss in public just like men and women do. I have both conservative and very flamboyant gay friends.

Lost 01-27-2011 08:42 PM

And I doubt the flamboyant ones will want to get their asses beat in boot camp. I know none of the flagrant fags (they call themselves fags, I lol every time they do) that I know personally would actually volunteer for any military duty. It doesn't change anything behind the curtain, it only makes it where someone can claim to be gay and not be refused by that criteria only. The recruiters can still make any excuse possible to refuse someone as unfit for duty.

Iggy 01-27-2011 10:22 PM

Yeah, but they can do that to anyone.

I went to a drama school, so two can play at the "I know gay people" pissing contest. Please help me understand a situation where gay men in the military would go around grabbing asses in the shower. I'd be surprised if extremely queeny gays would be so in the military. My bet would be that gays who would be open in the military would be doing their best to combat extreme gay stereotypes.

Perhaps I'm wrong but I would be extraordinarily surprised.

As a footnote your post also seemed to suggest (at least to me) that gays would be flirting (for lack of a better word) with straight men, which is a rather unfortunate fallacy that many straight people seem to hold true.

Innoc 01-28-2011 01:11 AM

Frankly I think those that are flamboyant sexual annoy most everyone else....regardless of whether homo or hetero.

Look at the East Coast Guidos...know anyone more deserving of a baseball bat to the head?

FrenchToast 01-28-2011 01:50 AM

I agree with you completely and find most if not all explicit displays of sexual strutting and posturing extremely irritating, but that's mostly a result of my quasi-british upbringing and probably my own insecurities. I still grant people their right to be as obnoxious as they want, however irritating though. Example: Bridget.

You don't grant me my right to be obnoxious. I am, and you deal with it.

Figure of speech.
