YAY for trolls pulling a prank and getting tasered for their efforts! Should have stuck to clubbing him for his efforts.

He went past his mic time, it was cut off, and he started acting up. When police tried to remove him, he started resisting them and trying to make a scene, and was then placed under arrest for civil disturbance.

Quote:
Police report student told them: 'You didn't do anything wrong'
5:52 p.m., Sept. 18, 2007

Police have released the incident report detailing the Tasering of a University of Florida student during a campus forum with Sen. John Kerry Monday, and the officer who actually Tasered Andrew Meyer wrote in the report that Meyer later told police, "You didn't do anything wrong."

In the 12-page report, which gives accounts of the incident from the perspective of eight different officers who were present Monday afternoon, Officer Nicole Mallo writes that Meyer would only resist officers when cameras were present.

"As (Meyer) was escorted down stairs (at the University Auditorium) with no cameras in sight, he remained quiet, but once the cameras made their way down stairs he started screaming and yelling again," Mallo wrote.

Mallo was one of two officers who actually rode in the vehicle as Meyer was escorted to the Alachua County jail, and she said said he told them during the ride: "I am not mad at you guys, you didn't do anything wrong, you were just trying to do your job," according to Mallo's account.

Mallo also wrote in her report that he asked, at one point, if cameras would be present at the jail.

The report details the events leading up to Meyer's arrest, saying that Meyer was in line to ask a question of Sen. Kerry when it was decided that no more questions would be allowed.

Meyer continued down the aisle toward Sen. Kerry angrily, according to police, saying he wanted the senator to answer his question because he had been waiting for two hours.

Though Sen. Kerry directed that Meyer be allowed to ask his question, police reported that Meyer did not ask any specific question and instead "badgered" the senator, and at one point said something about President Clinton being impeached over a sexual act.

At that point, police reported that ACCENT Director Max Tyroler turned off Meyer's microphone and asked police to escort him out of the auditorium, saying, "He had said enough," according to Officer Mallo's report.

Officers then proceeded to attempt to remove Meyer from the room, but when he resisted, they placed him on the ground and tried to handcuff him. The six officers who actually took part in holding Meyer down while he was being handcuffed reported that they were only able to get a handcuff on his right hand because he was squirming so much.

The supervising officer, Sgt. Eddie King, attempted to Taser Meyer on his chest, but he reported that his Taser would not deploy. He then instructed Mallo to Taser Meyer, and she Tasered him on his shoulder, according to one of the officer's report.

The officers were then able to fully handcuff Meyer and escort him from the building. Each of the six officers reported that Meyer yelled things like, "They're going to kill me," and, "They are giving me to the government," while he was being taken from the room.

He was arrested for civil disturbance and attempting to disturb the peace, not for asking the wrong questions. But by all means, flame America and our police officers for making use of the most efficient and non-lethal force they could to take him down and remove him from the building given that he was being a threat to other people around him and breaking the law, if it makes you feel better. And of course, feel free to relate one isolated incident to the controversial Patriot Act, because America is such a fascist dictatorship.

Yes, feel free to.

OK, it really didn't look necessary to do that on the video. He as lying on the ground with 6 officers holding him down. He wasn't going anywhere, and he wasn't going to hurt them, or anyone else.

I agree he should have been removed, that's what you do when people don't leave after they're asked, you make them. But they were successfully moving him without the assistance of a tazer.

I wish the camera had been on John Kerry...talk about an uncomfortable situation. Notice how Kerry tries to carry on but it's clear at least some of his attention was on the tool in the back of the room.

Free Speech: You can say anything you want, as long as you don't offend the rich, because if they do, the police are probably going to beat the shit out of you.

What ever happened to that college student that got tasered a year ago in a library?

I guess water cannons and dogs get replaced by tasers.

Kerry's reaction is pretty funny though. I gotta be honest there.

Tazers are painful, but they are non lethal and don't cause any serious permanent damage. So while I don't think it was needed to taze the kid, it's not that big of a deal. Especially if he isn't complaining. He would be within his rights to sue, press charges, post fliers, write news articles etc. He is opting not to do that.

I take it you will be the first in line for a free taze since it isn't a big deal? And there is no way he would be able to win a law suit because I doubt it would get to trial. Fact of the matter is if those campus security people are considered Police or Peace officers then the fact that he was resisting ended any chance he had. They would probably hit him with battery or some bullshit like that.

I find it ridiculous that he can be removed because the security or w/e they were just said so even though he wasn't breaking the law. But I was talking about it w/ my father and he pointed out that if police/peace officers don't have the authority to remove you from an area w/o question then it creates other problems with safety. You don't know what is in the mind of the officer about what is going on (is the situation dangerous?). It's a shitty situation where the power is easily abused but it can't be discarded.

Overall though there was no good reason to taze the kid, especially when he was already taken down and saying "don't taze me!"

If his mic time was up, yes, he should have been like, ty for your time and sat back down.

That but that taser was uncalled for, especially if that student had any heart conditions or blood pressure conditions.

Might have died -> police on trial -> acquitted -> bs by the taser manufacturers of how taser are the safer alternative to other methods -> officers get moved up in rank -> allow more tasers to be used -> more death -> more acquittal etc etc.

Same old story for years.

They were, most likely, campus police. Even the small University (compared to others) here in Reno has it's own Police Department. Fact of the matter is that the place where this Q&A session occurred was a place over which the campus exercised control as it belonged to the University. This place had also been reserved for the purpose of conducting the event with John Kerry. This moron came there for the sole purpose of creating a spectacle and getting it on film for his site. As much as I dislike Kerry this guy was out of line and his resistance to the lawful orders given by the officers was what warranted him bing tasered. This isn't some random citizen that was singled out to be picked on by the police. If you don't want to be tasered then don't go looking for it like this idiot did.

Many people with serious heart or blood pressure conditions that WOULD be affected by a taser like that are not that active, and extremely rare. He was told he was past his time, and refused to give up. When his mic was cut, he started to try to make a scene.

Uudge, really, I don't think it's worth trying on you. The chance of ANYONE dying by a taser is so low that it's like saying that my computer might catch fire due to bits of faulty hardware, and then burn my house down, and kill me in the process, so I should get rid of my computer. Now I'm sure many people would want that to happen, but it's such a rediculously low risk.

He has his right to free speech. Find me where in the Constitution I'm allowed to start making a scene (which he did his best to every time cameras were around) because I exceeded my permissions. Really. The next option up in the use of force is use of physical means to disable the suspect, which means pulling out the batons and beating the shit out of him untill he stops. Every hardcore left winger in the world would be up in tears with "POLICE BRUTALITY!"

He broke the law, he was all over the place and was attempting to cause a scene. He's lucky he was only tasered.
