What an idiot. He uses two sided logic, which for some reason the other guy didn't comment on- A kid can easily buy the game. What the hell? A kid can easily watch all the porn he could ever want and never have to pay a dime on the internet. It's a stupid debate and he's just in it for publicity.

I hate this asshole. "ESRB rates games without playing all the way through them". I'll bet anyone that he hasn't even played manhunt 2.

First of all, using your own kid to do sting operations is irresponsible and moronic.
What this guy lacks is common sense.

It's easy to point fingers at the video game industry considering the amount f violence seen in todays games, however, they are rated correctly by the ESRB, if something is moved from an Adult only game to a Mature rated game, there obviously has to be reason for it.

Also, the guy on the other side didn't really get a chance to fight back at all. He was asking the wrong questions... The main question is, regardless of kids under the age at which one can play a video game, is it the gaming industry's fault for creating that game? Or even moreso, is it the ESRB's fault for rating it 'cincorrectly?'

My answer is simply this. Until the kid is at the age of majority(usually 1, the parents have sole responsibility for him/her... Because the parents allow their kids to play these games, it is their fault, not the gaming industry's fault.

Kids can get access to pills, cigarettes, alcohol, hell even rated R movies with little or no effort, because the parents are not parenting their children.

How many people play Counter Strike versus how many people have killed others or killed themselves who also play counter strike? Not very many. I bet the ratio is less than .1%....

Regardless of that, anyone who is over the age of majority is now responsible for their own actions, own responsibilities, and should now know the difference between right and wrong. If they don't they can still blame their parents, but there's not much that can be done from that point.

Video games play no part in school shootings, and the industry should never lose a court battle because of things like this. It's the corrupt nonsensical politicians who get games banned for no good reason.

Let me tell ya something. Parents don't want responsibility for their own children anymore. They take em to the doctor because they were day dreaming in class, the doctor prescribes Ritalin. Problem solved. Now your child is hooked on a drug and will probably be using pills for the rest of their adult life. Congrats on not raising your kids properly. People these days don't want to put their child in a position where they are a burden, so they think it can all be fixed by a doctor, when in fact, children often act up because that's what kids do. Rules, common sense, right vs. wrong are the things bein taught to these kids.

Banning things does no good. Education about these things is what will enable your child to grow up understanding basic concepts of the world, and things that are not really a part of the world, such as video games. No harm can ever come from a video game, unless you're pissed off that you can't get duck hunt to play, even after blowing in the cartidge 50 million times so you throw it and it hits your little brother in the face.

Yeah, you see what I mean? Jack Thompson is the perfect example of mental retardation.

I love that the reporter was clearly on Jack's side and made that debate as one sided than it could ever be.

I would love to see a controlled honest debate with him in it. I want to see his rection when he's forced to respond to the points being proposed without breaking the rules of debate.

Yes it makes me want to put on a tiger head and do a massive backbreaking combo on him! (yes I made a Tekken reference!)
Or take my gravity gun and blow a crate into his head!
Or create a portal under him and place the other one over a pit of acid!
Or "guitar hero" him to death...(is this possible?)
Or set my super soldier suit to "maximum strength" and kick his head in!
Or...okay I could go on for a long time...
Edit: Or take my medkit and give him AIDS!
Edit2: Or "Kamahameha" him to the face!

I found myself compelled to punch my screen whenever Jack Thompson came on to it, Videogames aren't the cause of violence! He is! RAWWWWWWWRRRR

/sticks Jack Thompson picture to face of brother
/Punches brother

SEE! Its allready started :'(

Serious note: That guy seems a total douche, I just thought he was mildly against videogames 'till I watched this :/, practicing how to shoot people on doom? What? Clearly you have a crosshair and a mouse in real-life, you can barely practice how to carry out malicious things on a game, get a grip.

Yeah, shooting guns in video games is completely different in real life. If I shoot 50 rounds of an M1 in Day of Defeat my shoulder doesn't hurt, but if I do it in real life(which I have and highly recommend), it will hurt.

Haven't done that but I can vouch for the same result after shooting through 3 boxes of shotshells shooting clay pigeons.

You know, someone should make a Jack Thompson player model for Counter-Strike, then send him a picture of it in action.

I'd fucking love to see what would happen.
