Looks like some spirit wants me to play FF more...

Anybody have a solution to this TF2 crash i'm experiencing?...

It loads the intro and everything, but before it has a chance to load the menu, it crashes to desktop without errors..

specs- Nvidia Geforce 5200le, 767 ram, 1.7 ghz, amd athlon 2000+..

Even though it's pretty low, my system can infact run it smoothly, so it doesn't have anything to do with hardware, me thinks.

*runs away*

You just barley make the minimum specs.

But I have a comp for my boys like that and it works now. But it had one issue, The cpu fan quit working once windows fired up it worked fine if I left it in the bios screen. windows worked fine but as soon as I fired up the game the cpu would overheat and shut the game down. So check your system fans and shit like that make sure they are all working and if they are just play ff more.

PS big balls coming here to ask that question. what did steam suxport tell you? This is the best thing I seen from steam check it out it'll check your system for conflicts. steam://support/?Issues=*

Hangs, on the other hand, do not automatically send minidumps to us. There is a way you can help, but it's a manual process.

1) Try running in windowed mode. It's easier to get minidumps when running windowed. To start in windowed mode, open up your games list in Steam and right-click on Team Fortress 2. Select 'Properties', then click the 'Set Launch Options...' button. Add -sw to the launch options. [Be sure to remove this launch option after you're done getting minidumps]

2) After launching Team Fortress 2, launch the Task manager. You can launch it by right-clicking on the task bar and selecting 'Task Manager'.

3) Configure the Task Manager to show process IDs. Do this by going to the View menu of the Task Manager and selecting 'Select Columns...'. Then make sure the 'PID (Process Identifier)' field is checked.

3a) When the hang occurs, check the task manager. If steam.exe is pegged at 99% or 100%, don't send us a crash dump; almost all crash dumps we've received are this bug. If you have this bug, we are looking for a repro box (as of 9/24/2007). If you've got a laptop you want to send us, or you live near Bellevue, WA, send mail to tf2betabug@valvesoftware.com. We'll pay for shipping if necessary

4) When the hang occurs, open up a Command Prompt (using Start Menu->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt)

5) In the Command Prompt, cd to where you have Steam installed. Typically this is stored in c:\program files\steam, so for that case, you'd type cd "\program files\steam" (the quotes are necessary because of the space in 'program files').

6) In the command prompt, type 'writeminidump <process ID> <file name>' where <process ID> is the number in the PID column next to the hung hl2.exe process in the Task Manager and <file name> is the output filename for your crash dump.

7) Mail the file you created to tf2betabug@valvesoftware.com, along with information about your video card, your OS (Vista/XP), amount of memory, and, if possible, your driver version, which you can find under Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Adapter->Properties->Driver on the 'Driver Version' line. Also, please send us the day + time the minidump was created so we know which set of code to test the minidump against.

Don't bother sending us more than 3 minidumps or so. Most likely you're hitting the same problem each time. Getting more than 1 is interesting, however, because if they show up in the same place each time, it makes it very likely to be a code bug. We have definitely encountered machines in the wild with bad memory that produce crashes in random places (unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about those machines).
Also, some people hare having problems w/ anti-virus software:
Quote:
Recently there have been some issues with Source engine games and certain Anti-Virus applications. These issues can cause game crashes and prevent the Steam Community overlay from functioning.

- AVG 7.5 and NOD32 have both been confirmed to cause crashes with Source engine games. Here are some examples of the symptoms you will see as a result of this issue:

1) A warning message telling you to reduce your screen resolution
2) A error message about failing to lock the vertex buffer
3) The game hanging with steam.exe at 100% utilization (or 50% utilization on a dual core, or 25% utilization on a quad core).
4) A hang while connecting to servers

If you are running either of these Anti-Virus programs then they need to be fully uninstalled.

- Kaspersky anti-virus can prevent the in-game overlay from working correctly. Kaspersky has provided a work-around that can be found here:

http://supportwiki.steampowered.com/...m_is_malicious

Please be aware that we are working with these companies to improve these issues.

Wrong forum? Then where would I post it then? The Steampowered forums? No, I already did. I only got one post .

I may not get nice replies, but it's better then only getting one.

Edit: I made mistake, I said I had a 5200 instead of a 5700, damnit I really gotta stop doing that.
I already tired the steam support also, didn't have anything on the issue I experiencing.

I clicked the link, updated what I needed to update, but that wasn't the problem.
Thanks for the links though guys, but I knew what the problem was..
my TF2 folder was under 500mb, kind of wrong, so I deleted it and launched it again and got it.

Tried verifying your TF2 cache?

It sounds like you might have a driver/hardware problem. Try running the game in a lower DX level.

When TF2 was first released, really it would hard lock my PC every other map change and basically was a HUGE pain in the ass. Oh, then it would lock up when firing a gun. Or moving. Or not moving. It sucked because it wasn't crashing, it was just forcing me to completely reboot the system. Once I uninstalled AVG though all my problems were solved.

Of course, unlike the OP I am running on a bit above the absolute dead-minimum hardware specs.

I love their solutions. "Steam has a problem with some common free antivirus programs, so you should probably just uninstall them. You don't really need antivirus programs nowadays anyway."

-Two weeks later-

"Introducing valvE Antivirus! Play as Gordon Freeman as you shoot down incoming .exes and Trojans! Works as your real antivirus, too!"
