wow, I was about to bet big bucks ($$$) in thinking that 99% of the replies to this thread would be "LOLZ, WHO READS BOOKZ?" or "Books are for nubs, internet's where its at". Guess that was totally the wrong conclusion, which is cool
I actually, honestly, have not read a single book in more than 4 years. (As far as I know) The closest thing I have somewhat read (about a chapter or so) was my PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) book, and a bit of my C++/Visual Basic books. And I decided I was going to read the entire bible as well... I got through about 8 pages before I fell asleep, although it was interesting. I'd still like to read it, but I'd prefer a cleaner version (mine is in like different color text and stuff). [Don't get on the topic of religion, we are talking about BOOKS, this is just one BOOK that I want(ed) to read] EDIT: I know, but I've always thought it should be Pre Hypertext Processor (Hence PHP) but whatever :P EDIT2: lol wtf, I typed "Pre Hypertext Protocol" lol? What was I on? Fixed. Last edited by o_vertical; 07-04-2006 at 03:51 PM. |

(Pssst. PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. Or it does now. It was originally Personal Homepage Tools. But whatever.)

I never finished "The DaVinci Code" in paperback. Apparently I just don't have the attention span, time, nor the vision needed for reading. However, I do have a monotonous non-customer based job where headphones are allowed. So, I downloaded "The DaVinci Code" audio book. It was superb. Loved every moment of it, especially all the information about religion within the story.
Anyways, this audio book caused me to download many others. Currently I am listening to "George Orwell - 1984" Its scary how accurately this book can depict 'some' current events! Last edited by o_tyrus; 08-30-2006 at 01:34 AM. |

Indeed. I couldn't put down the DaVinci code, I read it in a couple hours.
I'm reading 4 things simultaneously kinda. Atheism by S.T. Joshi the Holy Bible the Qur'an the Teachings of Buddha - assembled and translated by like 600 people. I don'tk now what prompted me to read them, but they're all pretty awesome reads. |

I'm re-reading the 7th Nausicaa book, but it's really really sad so I'm kinda scared to go on
So in the meantime I'm reading 'A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man' By James Joyce. Recently I've been wanting to read War and Peace but I don't know if I can lift it. |

I don't really think reading the entire book of the DaVinci Code in a couple of hours is possible. Er, correction, maybe possible, but not probable. My copy of this book is 488 pages. You claim to read 4.1 pages per minute. Did you even taste the food as it went down? If you did in fact read it that fast, wow, I'm impressed. |

If you liked the story of Da Vinci Code, if not the writing, I'll have to suggest that you read The Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson. That's really the book that sparked modern conspiracy-theory writing (written back in the 60s or 70s, I think). Very well written, in some parts, if a bit long. I highly recommend it.
