Secondary Key Inputs?
I just got my new Alienware laptop and downloaded Fortress Forever finally . Anyway, when setting my keys, I noticed you can't set a secondary? Is it possible? I am not good at bhopping so I don't have strafe set to A or D. I have them as my arrow keys and use that area when sniping...Just wondering on that. Any info would be appreciated

You could set it in your sniper.cfg, yes.
Post exactly what keys you want and I can set you up with a .cfg that will work for whatever you want. Doesn't have to be restricted to sniper either. If you have specific keys you want set up for other classes then I can set that up to.

Oh really? Sweet. Well I like to have duck set as the Z key and Control key. Forward and back to up arrow key and down arrow key. Thats all really. I am not much into the strafing for A and D. I use the turn there .

Buy a mouse and use WASD like the rest of the world.
You will like it a lot more.

I wouldn't even bother playing without a mouse. Unless you use that key set-up because you're on a laptop, then fine, if not, use WASD for gods sake. Arrow keys are the worst way to play, unless you're left handed with mouse.

Untrue. Arrow keys gives you many more options for keybinds than wasd.

In the immediate area around WASD there are 13 keys. That is, there are 13 keys touching WASD. There are no keys touching the arrow keys. Further, if I were to use the same distances to the nearest set of keys on the arrow keys for WASD, and just included those, I would have more options as there are keys below WASD. So, unless you mean you prefer the arrow keys because there is more room, then sure. But to say that it gives you more options for keybinds would be incorrect simply because there are more keys around WASD. Or any similar set of keys on the letter part of the keyboard. Like TFGH.

You're all fools! It's all about the ESDF!

I use arrow keys for movement. ctrl for crouch, shift for walk, kp_ins for voice comm, kp_end(1) for nade 1, kp_down(2) for nade 2. I've found it easier than accidently hitting z, or x, or f, or q and wondering why the key isn't working.... get the idea? All immediately needed keys are surrounding the arrow keys. Anything else, is either chat related, or binds. All the important shit is right there, with no accidently mistaking which key I'm hitting. It's a personal preference... and that's mine.

I use ESDF for movement, then pretty much everything is shifted over.
W is last weapon, T is reload, R is use, G is voice comm, and my number keys are shifted over as well. Oh and Shift is the score board, and my grenade binds are on mouse4 and mouse5.

Yup, arrow keys are the best, mainly because the up arrow is exactly aligned vertially with the down arrow. Now if they had inexpensive custom keyboards that have the wasd where the w lined up with the s, I might have gone that route, but as it stands, this config is by far the best.
Jump - Delete Crouch - \ Use - End Reload - Pg Down/Mouse4 Walk - Insert Next Weapon - ] Thumb is used for moving backwards as well as strafing, Index finger only for forward. Middle finger used for Jump/Walk, and Ring finger is used for Ducking/Grenades(which is why I use gren on mouse now). Pinky rarely used, but can be used for weapon switching. Don't need much else than that. I have nades configured for both Backspace/+ keys as well as on my mouse, so no biggy there. I have my spacebar bound to no command. It's a waste of space. I have big hands, so I need some extra space for my keys, and WASD just doesn't cut it. |
