Seen it. I don't like the FF one. I think we should wait until we have a better logo, because, to be perfectly honest, a collapsed version of the old one is pretty lame.

Maybe we could incorporate some f's.

The Natural-Selection icon is pretty ugly as well. The author should've directely copied the fade eye instead.

None of them are especially good or interesting.

Cool to give the popular third-party mods proper icons though.

Agreed. Critic's frequently criticize those who's talent they cannot match. If you can't rise to their level...drag them down to yours. Kudos for the attempt.

They arent that bad, coming from some exp in PS I give the guy kudos for at least the attempt also. The glass effect isnt too hard to do. I would have gone for the rough stainless look personally. then again, i dont use icons when it comes to HL or HL2.

I like the Digital Paintball one. I hope that mod gets released soon, the original one was a big LAN party hit

I wish I had a fraction of the ability and talent your team has. Instead I will wait to enjoy the fruits of your labors. I salute your efforts.

Then I suppose that the only people who can criticize a game are game developers, and the only people who can criticize a film are flim producers. Heaven forbid people have an opinion.

I find film critics to be wrong more often than they're right. There's a difference between constructive criticism that is intended to sincerely point out bugs or mistakes and that which is merely an insult with nothing helpful offered. The latter group can sod off for all I care.

In the case of something simple like this I think that the people who think that it sucks should do better or move on.

The point I'm trying to make is that people are always going to have views on something. People are going to want to express those views, especially when it the thing that they like/dislike is marketed to them.

If people say: "Oh, this is good" how is that any more helpful than "Oh, this is bad"? Shouldn't you be forced to back up your opinion in both cases, such as: "Oh, this is good because of the easily-identifiable traits and because you've given icons to 3rd party mods"?

Those icons look pretty cool... at least to me.

I get your point but disagree. I think it's the difference between a pat on the back and a smack on the back of the head. One encourages the results a particular act or direction. The other communicates nothing other than displeasure with no constructive advice offered.

To whit.... I like the icon pack.

It's hardly like someone tracked the author down and told him how much his icon pack sucks. This whole can't-critise-unless-you-can-do-better-yourself attitude is just silly. Come on, this is a message board afterall!

To me it looks like he spent a lot of time on some icons, which look nice. The others just look rushed through and not very appealing.

They're not BAD icons. Some of them are pretty good.

The problem is, none of them are particularly imaginative. (How much room for imagination do you have in icons like these, though?) Some of them are just silly.

Blue Shift, Combine Assault, Garry's Mod, Border Patrol, Natural Selection, Perfect Dark, Plan of Attack, The Battlegrounds, Sven Co-Op, and Half-Life Rally have strange/nondescript/unrelated/overly simple icons that, well, aren't that great.

The overall look is good, and I'm sure a great deal of time was spent on the icons (or at least, the general look. I'm sure once you get one set up right, porting the styles over is easy), but a fair number of them are just... bleh.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. You can't put much detail into icons in the first place. It'd just be better if they were more... relevant, I guess.
