it was intentional. and i agree with you, as well as the rest of the community - that's why func_ladders are the way they are.

go up an FF ladder then go into hl2 and go up a ladder, youll notice a big difference

actually i didn't notice any difference, i always use use to mount/dismount a ladder , its something you have to get used to

You don't even have to type in "func_ladder" use the "tools/ladder" texture.
