TF2 Spy gets FF's cloaking.

http://www.teamfortress.com/spyupdate/

At this rate, I can imagine a SPAS-12 replacing his revolver, and a sabotager replacing his sapper.

(but at the cost of taking an eternity to disguise.)

Not to sound trite, but it almost HAD to happen. Both TF2 and FF solved the problem of not being able to "feign"(like TFC) due to physics constraints of the engine, with a cloak. From the beginning, I felt it was something done better in FF than in TF2(with the variable cloaking mechanisms) because you COULD effectively cloak and drop a corpse at the same time.... similar to how you could in TFC(you could feign loudly or silently depending on the situation). It was only a matter of time before the devs of TF2 tried to incorporate that.

I'm just hoping that new(er) players won't look at us like WE copied that feature.

Before you know it, newbies to TF2 will start calling us leechers for copying off TF2.

I really don't see how this is going to work when a lot of people turn on fast corpse disappear or disable them completely for better performance and Valve must assume that.

That's not how it's going to be, we will be the one's that will be thinking they are stealing/coping from us.

These are generic ideas. No one stole anything from anyone.

I doubt it. These will be the same people thinking Killing Floor stole from Left 4 Dead, or Alone in The Dark copied Resident Evil. Whichever gets the most publicity tends to be what the masses assume is the original.

Well unfortunately the only way you can prove that is if FF was never released and these ideas still came out exactly the same. Seeing as how FF came out first, these ideas are extremely similar to what FF came up with, and Valve is well aware of FF, it's reasonable to be suspicious of it. Then again, it could be coincidence, like how Valve moved up the TF2 beta release upon the announcement of FF's release date.

There was spy cloaking in qwtf years before this mod existed. Several versions of tf had this, iirc there was cloaking in some WF versions as well.

This is a silly idea. Valve has no motivation to alter the development of a comercial product they have invested in to compete with a player-made project that they could simply quash from their services if they so chose.

You really think Valve cares about a piss ant mod like FF? No. They care about money and a level just above mediocrity to keep people coming back. FF is gum on the bottom of their shoes. Let's try and move past the idea that Valve steals from FF. They could careless, you should too. Move on.

If there is one thing that irks me, it's that phrase.

For all I know, you might think Valve cares the maximum amount.

You guys really need to cut it with the Valve hate, as if it serves you any good. It's also 99% false.

"All they care about is making money"

Same with every other for-profit group in the history of the world.

But if Valve was so greedy to the point that they had no regard for quality and simply meeting deadlines we would have Half-Life 4 and Team Fortress 5 by now. But we don't, because Valve takes their sweet time to make some really nice games.

"They make games just a cut above mediocrity"

Do you know how many good games there would be if even 10% of games were better than Valve games, much less 40-50%? The fact is there aren't, and Valve represents the future of PC Gaming. Steam is a platform in it of itself, driven by a community of loyal fans and everyone else who is sucked in by the massive userbase and outstanding reviews for Valve titles.

I see more changes to TF2 pioneered by FF's mechanics. It's partly a reason that FF is allowed to exist, being a direct competitor with TF2.

Valve could easily shut down Fortress Forever if they wanted. They've done it several times in the past to Fortress mods who use too much of the same names and stuff because of trademark infringement. I think the reason they allow it to exist is because 1: it's on their own engine, and 2: they have TF2 and they know FF would never beat it.

You mean FF's mechanics that nearly all derive from TFC? Which Valve made.

I believe TFC copied FF. So did QWTF.
