Clan-style pub server?
I'm enjoying the mod a fair bit since I started playing two days ago.
However, I'm already starting to get sick of the pubs, what with all the OvO and such that goes on. I know, some people enjoy this. Are there any clanmatch-style pub servers up and running yet? Sort of like [GoW] Odin's Graveyard from back in the days of TFC, and other servers like that. |

Ah the lulz. As someone who's held his own as a D medic in league play, I'll say that I know what I'm talking about. They may not be the best at D, but to ban it is a bit extreme in my opinion. However, I was accused of OvO after playing Yard D, so maybe that's why. Either way, I don't mind all that much. The biggest thing that got me was the attitude everyone took towards it. A lot of people need to grow up.

And pryos? Are they allowed for D or O, since they're viable for both now, anyways.

God I would of hoped gay ass servers like Odins would not come back. People need to be able to play the game any way they want and kill the other team, it is so gay to play be all these rules except if your playing in a league match for gods sake.

Meh, OvD is fun in its own way and I don't see a problem so long as they don't try to force their gameplay style on me when I'm somewhere else.

^^^^ What Lost said. To each their own. However, that kind of attitude is... meh. I quite enjoy OvD from time to time, but the elitists that congregate on the servers now take the fun away, because you have to be "ZOMG SUPER ULTRA UGC GOLD" pro to be respected by them... nevermind attitude and teamwork.

i think if people want to lay down clanstyle rules like odins, they're better off slapping a password on it and posting it on their site or something. non passworded servers are gonna be pubs. period.

I don't think much of most "clan-style" servers anyway, they ended up being 9v9 offense vs. defense as often as not in the TFC era. What made oldschool TFC pubs like FOoM1 so good were the people that played there, not the rules that restricted them. |

yeah and its not good. i like the fact the TFC community is trying to adopt this game, but they must realise FF isnt some country club like they made TFC into. like defrag said, clans dont come from thin air, so they need to help make their community grow by helping others.

As far as I can tell, "League Rules" are a crutch for players who lack imagination or adaptability. They basically say "every game should be exactly the same. I should expect exactly the same number of exactly the same classes in exactly the same place every time.". If you run a server this way you lose at life. If you can't handle being killed by a soldier in the yard because you expected him in the flagroom you need to practice more and learn to adapt.
TF is a great game because it gives players options. Rather than one class you have 9. Rather than having to go to the same place to grab the rocket launcher and quad damage every time you can go vary your approach. Rather than having one singular way to score points you have many. If you like to defend you can do that. If you like to run like a cheetah past the enemy you can do that too. If you want to set off an explosive under your feet launching you a quarter mile across the map to land on a sniper's head then shoot him in the face with a shotgun, TF can accommodate. If you can't handle people who don't play the same way as you, this probably isn't your game. The problem with servers that set arbitrary rules is that they can discourage new players. Say I'm new to the game. I join a server, spawn as a soldier, then go out the front door and kill an enemy coming to the base. I then get told "League Rules, No Yard D". Confused, I kill another guy, and then get booted. Maybe I join another server, and get the same thing. I now write off this game as a community of elitist twits and go play something else. If I were the FF devs, I would force server operators to sign an agreement that limits that type of garbage to private locked games. Server operators are the community's ambassadors. Their conduct can shine poorly on the rest of the community and the mod itself. |
