hmm. why did people hate this video?

look at all the youtube videos for FF. http://youtube.com/watch?v=QhdVIlrZZAs
people are compaling for something. One person said "Good thing they stopped this nonsense in TF2." WTF?

i agree with the one person who said "This video prety much buried FF".

Showing some guys doing outlandish moves that require hours of isn't a great way to pull in newbies, especially if it's a promo video. That video's the best indicator of whom the original devs wanted to advertise to; TFC vets. It some ways you could say that it's everything wrong the devs did to advertise in one video.

It should've been released after the initial interest died down. Hell, if you ask me, it should be deleted off Youtube, for the better.

What we need is for FF fans to defend FF in these situations.

Lets not have these mere comments affect us, they're not part of FF, so thus they cannot touch our will!

Im a ff player and fan, but i agree that video was really harmfull, it turned out as the first thing that pops up when u search for ff, and jeez in what where they thinking with the dancing medics? and that music i cant imagine how many people saw that and flew away at the first minute with something like "this is ff?... " here is a quote from a way more tf player and fan than any of us wich explains what im trying to say

2. it put off experienced tf players because the skill level was imo really not great. i don't just mean the difficulty of the moves featured, but there are subtle things in the way a player moves and does things that leap right out as very very noob to the eyes of an experienced player.

3. it was badly made and edited: temporal aliasing, spatial aliasing, music and transitions not my thing at all (that's subjective tho ofc), ugly and badly timed footage cutting and arrangement, poorly paced overall with no real sense of flow and mostly all very confusing and muddled (even to me, a fairly experienced tf player and beta tester).

btw i do understand making gaming vids is not nearly as easy as some ppl think, and the purpose of this post is not to annoy ppl but to say honestly what i think was wrong with that video so hopefully we can learn

I liked it, actually. I thought it showed some of what could be done(if you know what you are doing), plus it showed off some player models, some ingame running around(showing off the map). I have no idea what people had against it...after all, they had been bitching for months about no new media releases.
Buncha dumbasses.

I loved it when it came out. And it's still a good watch now.

But, see the reactions to the TF2 nade-mod thread on the Steam forums for an explanation for negative feedback...

WTFever

This video stoked the hell out of me when I first saw it... Especially for the Pyro, believe it or not. When I saw the Pyro IC jumping and spewing flame, I experienced those chills and tunnel vision you get right before saying "coooooool"....."awesome."

Yeah, so I second the sentiment of Fuck'em, for whoever saw that vid as a reason not to play, or thought it made the game look shitty.

I'm not sure I'd classify it as harmful, but yeah, it's not how a newcomer is going to be playing FF. I think a really well done frag video would draw people in more. Also it may not appeal to everyone, but I love Mr. Beefy's Dustbowl Valley video.

that video was and remains to be pretty damn sweet. the reason it was made was because at that time on the forums (before a lot of you young whippersnappers were even members ) there was a lot of concern from tfc vets that the movement options that were in tfc would not be available in FF. so, we set out to show them that they were wrong, and we did. unfortunately, in doing so, we put off a lot of new players

Everything you say is true. We need more frag videos or just general FF videos like Dustbowl Valley. A well polished video showing lots of carnage...maybe a couple of skill moves, but nothing too major. The focus would be on cool kills and shit.

I think the video's fantastic and it gets the same kind of reactions that FF gets anyways: some people like, some people hate it, some people don't give a shit, etc.

I think our problem is still that FF isn't known by enough people and it hasn't even been downloaded/tried by enough people. A few thousand people trying it just...I dunno, that doesn't seem like a lot even though it is. We need hundreds of thousands of tries, if not more...then we X percentage of that "bigger try count" to stick around instead of just from our current "small try count"...or whatever.

doo doo butter?

There is plenty of that believe me. Tons of angsty little kids and 30 something men who have gone no where in life defending the game as if it were their soul mate. One word: Sunshine. Need it.

What we need is for people to quit acting like tools. "ZOMG SUMBODY DIDNT LIEK FF WHYYYYY????!?!?!? TF2 SUCKS LOLOLOL!"
