I still prefer the Golden Axe series for my beatemup pleasure. Or Asterix and Obelix...

But best 2 player arcade game, it has to be Virtual-On with twinsticks or Battletech/Red Planet.

Zan is fun, but Sol has the "unfair opponent" advantage + there's also Dizzy who satisfies two phantasies by being both an angel and a devil ^_^
But Pac-Man is singleplayer o_O

Ohh, there's also Pong and it's predecessor "something something tennis"

MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME!!! without a doubt the BEST!

I used to STEAL many many quarters to play that game while eating Dolly Madison Cherry Pies at the local 7-Eleven.

That was way back in the day. 1984ish....i was 16 then....wow...life goes by quick.

Pacman is a classic but once you get the five patterns down the game is a breeze. Now Ms Pacman implemented rudamentary AI, there are still patterns but, unlike Pacman, you cannot play it blindfolded.

I still would view Joust as a better game. Not only are you flying around on a Roc, but the Co-op/Counter-op multiplayer is a blast even now. Granted I am a bit biased in that I have been playing it quite a bit recently.

Other good 2 player arcade games:
Sunset Riders - Sidescrolling Western with a rocking soundtrack.
Radiant Silvergun - Shump with some difficulty, a beginner danmaku.
Tatsujin/Truxton 2 - FAR easier than the original, but co-op makes a big difference.
Altered Beast - Awesome Platformer styled brawler with powerup schemes for each level...granted the bear forms kneeling strike is quite odd.
1000 Miglia/1000 Mile Rally - AWESOME isometric racer.
2020 Super Baseball - its like an arcade form of Basewars, though Basewars is still superior.
Baku Baku Animal - One of the best puzzlers out there.
Batsugun - Another good shooter, danmaku styled.
Die Hard Arcade - Even if you hated the movies.

Forgive me, my Mamequest is only in the B's. And I could go on a long long while. Besides Xmen 6 player is still one of the best Arcade games there ever will be.
