help me decorate my room!

Okay, I'm going all Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen on my room in a month or two, and I have a few ideas I need to throw around a bit.

http://brayergirl.typepad.com/photos...4/dscf1813.jpg

I need that wallpaper, or something similar in those colours to be my 'feature wall', with the other walls being painted that brown, and the picture rails/ceiling being painted that cream, although i want the cream a little lighter all round.

as for furniture, i was thinking of just having a single tallboy hold all my clothes, a bed for sleeping in, and a desk for working on. perhaps i may even get a futon for *ahem* guests.. and lounging around on of course.

give me some more ideas.. furnishings, colours, patterns.... whatever.

WTF

How strange you should mention Lawrence L B. No bs, last night I took a trip down memory lane in my head whilst in bed, randomly remembered that they did a Changing Rooms just a min walk down the road. With LLB.

I'd bring in a strong cool color like blue, purple or green--on the bed or curtains or such--to offset the brown. I'm not a fan of monochrome rooms like that because as soon as you bring in anything non-matching it ruins the effect.

I'd reccomend a tasteful oil painting.

I have a print of this in my room.

Like blue, purple, or green beds and curtains?

No, it makes a new effect. The color scheme stops being monochrome and becomes complementary. Also you would want to repeat the accent color a few times within the room so that it ties it all together.

cleaned this thread the fuck up.

okay, so my room's also quite dark, as its on the north side of the house. i was thinking of keeping the brown, but getting some huge fuckoff great mirror to go on the wall where most of the light hits. cool idea?

Depends on how good looking you are, TBH. And how much you like cleaning mirrors. If your room is dark, a mirror will make it look twice as big, but still dark.

My room is north-facing, too, and I went with a light color. I would say it depends on how large your walls are, and how much you are planning to furnish with light-colored stuff.

my room's window is on the north face, but its a fucking massive window, and a lot of ambient light shines in, but comes across as dark still. most of the light at the moment shines onto a blue wardrobe, so its quite dark. i was basically gonna put the mirror where said wardrobe is.

as for furniture, i was thinking natural oak. oak rules. if not, it will be some other light wood, possibly pine (as much as pine fails on longevity, its dirt cheap)

Can't go wrong with Oak. I've been meaning to buy a new bed set for about 6 months now. This twin mattress is just too damned small. My problem is my height. Not too many beds made for a nearly 7 ft tall guy.

I sleep on the floor now on a sleeping bag.

...it's actually more comfortable than my tiny bed.

My dad used to know a company that they would make you custom mattresses... and since it was direct from warehouse, it wasn't much more expensive than buying a smaller one in a store. Made everything custom, brand new stuff. Sadly their out of business, otherwise I'd have a 7 or 8 foot long bed and a good deal wide as well.

Full size bed. It works fine so long as I don't lay straight. I have to curl a bit.
