pre-order? are we expected to pay for it?? it's always been free on the UT engine, I'm glad steam gives people the marvelous opportunity to charge for things. Thanks but no thanks.

Yes, but the game was/is a MOD on the Unreal engine.

This time it's a fully blown retail game that they have the rights to sell, as they won the Unreal Engine 2.5 liscence in the "NVIDIA's $1,000,000 Make Something Unreal Contest."

No kidding? Damn, no way in hell I'm paying $25 through Steam. I'd rather buy UT2k4 and get the free download.

Probably cost me $25 or so for UT but at least I'd get two games out of the deal.

Umm, isn't the version coming out on Steam a new and different game from the mod that was on UT? Seems that way to me from my quick visit to their website.

Also, steam is a content delivery system. It gives developers (such as the ones here) another way to distribute their game. This game is also coming out in box form and probably would've been the only way to get it if steam didn't exist. Just because it is buyable through steam doesn't mean Valve has anything to do the game. They are just taking the place of a publisher. If I had the option with most games I would get it through steam since I hardly ever use anything that comes in the box and I'll be able to play it right when it gets released instead of waiting for a store to start carrying it.

I'd heard it was the same game, that they would probably include the UT2k4 engine in the download (since it would take time and money to port it to Source).

Could be wrong, which is likely, and its nothing against Valve for me not using Steam, I got screwed with DoD:S when I preordered, but I did get a refund at least. So if its a completely new game, then I may look into getting it, but if its the same thing as the mod for UT, then I'll get UT first.
