I'm *ihmhi on UsEast, I have a Level 7 Necromancer (ladder reset recently).

If you want to roll and you need a supporting caster, hit me up on Steam.

Once I hit Level 50 or so I'll be cracking out about 1,000 pure magic damage per Bone Spirit.

As for D3, I am actually disappointed that it is not pay to play.

Once you buy the game, Blizz has your money and the same shit that happened with BNET will eventually happen with D3 - laggy servers, no support staff, and the community goes to shit.

Monthly fee, this means good server architecture (and necessary expansion as rapidly as possible if it necessary), and if they do something stupid you can vote with your dollars and stop paying.

You can't expect people to pay a monthly fee for a regular RPG...that'd be kinda far fetched though I understand where you're coming from...

Therein lies the split in the community between those who want a compelling SP game and those who stick to the MP or MMO model.

Something like that... won't happen for a very very long time. D2 is still just fine and it's been 8 years since it was released. It will probably be 10 years before D3 comes out, and the D2 servers will still be just as bangin'.

P2P does not jive well with the Diablo formula and anyone who thought they would take the same approach with D3 that they did with WoW must not understand that. Blizzard does, and this is why they are making D3 like the other games.

Look at Hellgate: London. It's a P2P (optional, but if you're going to be doing much of anything worth while) Diablo-esque MMO. It just doesn't jive well.

You must remember that Warcraft has been, roughly, the same since the first game with only minor changes and additions (no more roads, as an example). Starcraft is going to be the same. World of Warcraft is a completely different branch than the Warcraft series. Did you honestly expect WoW to be an RTSMMO?

Same thing here. The Diablo formula works, and it works well. The proof is in the fact that people are still playing an eight year old game. Hell, I still roll up a mage in D1 every now and then.

P2P generally means nothing but closed servers... which means that I can't play my single player character with my friends single player characters. This is another reason why HG:L sucked the big one.

All that I care about is that the action of DII has been preserved, which it looks like it has.

So, YAY!

And the only reason DIII couldn't be an MMO is that you can't have action like that over a network. The actual format of DII would have worked well as an MMO.

That's one of the reasons why I didn't like HG:L and TQ so much. Either it didn't exist, sucked, or you had to pay to use it... or all 3.

If it doesn't exist then it obviously sucks, and if you had to pay to use it then it might as well not exist at all.

So, I've been talking a lot with my friends all day about DIII, and we've come to the conclusion that the graphics are really stunningly well done, both artistically and technically, but they're totally wrong for Diablo.

I've gone on about this for hourse already, but long story short, Diablo II had a style where everything was high contrast, with a limited pallete of saturated colors. Lots of spaces were very dark, lots of spaces were very bright, and there was usually one bright saturated color while everything else was shades of grey or brown. Like in most of act 1, there was the bright verdant green grass, while all the stone walls, and all the cripts were grey, and all the trees were brown like it was autumn. Inside the catacombs and stuff there was almost no color at all. Hell was either dark slate black, or fiery orange-red lava. And so on.
Diablo III looks like it has a very different style which looks an awful lot like the Warcraft style. Nothing against the Warcraft style, but I think all the colors take away from the dingy ugly (in a good way) Diablo style. Diablo had a more realistic (or at least naturalistic) look which I much preferred.

I'm gonna buy the game anyway because Same Action Based Gameplay + Heavy Focus On Coop = Will Sell Soul To Obtain.

Still.

Actually, some guy I was talkin' to about D3 (He played D2 with me for near on 3 years) and he mentioned how it looks a lot less "Gothic-y" than D2, I agree tbh, I just hope there's places like Andariels tomb, Skulls for a chair, dead shit everywhere loved that place for those 2 simple things :3

I got more of a "Gauntlet Legends" vibe from it... But anyone who doesn't think there will be bleak, "gothic" areas in D3, I worry for. We saw two areas, all (presumably) early in the game. I think it'd be a safe assumption to think that the world will become gradually more evil as you progress.

Pretty much. You also have to remember that this is 20 years since the worldstone was destroyed. 20 years without evil around can do a lot to a fantasy world, not to mention that the consequences to the worldstone being destroyed was unknown, according to Tyrael.... if you want to believe him.
