Dustbowl and Anticitizen Flags

Why do they slow you down and not allow tossing?

Palermo is much friendlier to jumpers yet allows full movement and flag tossing.

I vote we remove this silly restriction on AvD movement and make dbowl and anticitizen more fun.

What about the map balance? Is it balanced around slow flag movement?

No, because, if you were looking closely, I gave an example in the post of a map that

1) Is LESS restrictive against jumping caps (higher skybox, walls to det, you know the cool jump to 3rd point, cornfield waterway, etc..)
2) Has LESS restriction against movement (From here on referred to as: FlagLag)

as opposed to Dustbowl and Anticitizen

1) Are MORE restrictive against jumping caps.
2) Are MORE restrictive on movement, with FlagLag

Maybe I'm just tired, but I was wondering if Dustbowl was balanced more around slower flag movement.

It kind of was. Before the last 2 patches, offense won 90%+ of the time on dustbowl. Invincible jump pads, faster-in-general movement in FF compared to TFC, and less spamminess all completely changed dustbowl. The blue pipe change and grenade bag change (looking at CP2 here) is the biggest factor, I think. Now, since O can't just plop down JPs nilly willy, it's a bit more balanced, but it still favors O I think. Cloak, jump pads, rjumps...the defenders need something to help them out.

Then why do we play all the other avd maps as apposed to these? Dustbowl isn't all that great. But I think anticitizen is pretty awesome.

I suppose that's not really a good argument in a community like ours, where the same maps get played over and over. But I still think the avd maps with out these restrictions are much more fun for all involved, and they all stand more to lose from no flaglag.

This would be an easy thing to test in beta (or in any server for that matter). I see absolutely no reason why flag dropping should be disallowed.

As for helping out D, we can give them some more secondary grenades, though there's a risk of completely ruining the maps with spam.

A lot of avd maps would be much more fun without snipers, simply. Dealing with snipers on anticitizen cp1/cp3? Jesus christ it's fucking horrible. Even if you kill them, they're back in 3 seconds.

Agreed on flag throwing. I'd also like to see a new lua where instead of changing the map after one team caps 3 points, it allows the other team to cap all 3.

Well, could Moto alter the LUA on Anticitizen/Dustbowl to remove flaglag and the inability to chuck the damn thing? To see how it goes?

im completly against flag throwing in AvD. with tosses you can just toss it on the cap even if you mess up your jump. its too dumbed down. but as for slowing down the flag carrier, you can get rid of that.

We can set flag toss velocity to zero, so it's literally a drop.

I think that all maps should have flag toss disabled, and that all maps should have the flag slowing. I also think the flag location indicator should be removed, but thats another discussion entirely.

The slow movement could be lost in an instant and nothing would be lost, but I guess we need to address the different gametypes (CTF vs AvD) and how flag throwing plays into it.

Sorry oats, but flag toss is built around some maps (plasma and destroy come to mind) unless you meant AvD maps.

I don't see what's wrong with flag indicator, what case could you possible make for that?

So far at least we agree that slow movement should be eliminated from flaglag.

I'm a pickup player, of course I mean AvD... Why would I want flag toss removed in CTF?

What's wrong with the flag indicator? How about having no element of surprise at all? Instead of thinking "Oh, where are they going to jump from", I now think "OH BOY HES COMING THROUGH THAT DOOR WITH THE FLAG TIME TO SPAM IT!"
