Gameplay awards are tracked by the Stats System but are ultimately just nice little bits and pieces to collect (or stockpile, in some cases). Think of them like Quake3's "EXCELLENT" and "IMPRESSIVE" awards -- but your stats will keep track of how many times you've achieved each gameplay reward. These are NOT the same as Global Awards, which are tougher to earn.

Examples:
* Flag Defence Award - Achieved by stopping an enemy from touching a dropped flag when he's really close to it.
* Flag Save Award - Achieved by touching a flag that was within two seconds of returning before your intervention.

Each Gameplay Award typically involves the player gaining personal score points, as detailed on the scoring page.

This page details the things each player can do to obtain personal points. Some of these actions will result in the player receiving a Gameplay Award (such as a flag assist). Some of them are just points and points alone (kill assist). Many of them will be tracked by the Stats System.

I can't think of a good way to amalgamate all three subjects into one page. They are all interlinked and have dependencies, but doing so would not be neat. Anybody got any ideas about this?

Examples of points that may be earned by the player:
* Capturing The Flag - 10 points
* Posessing flag for x seconds before it is captured by a teammate - 2 points
* Assist Flag Runner Under Fire - 1 point
* Flag Defence - 1 point
* Flag Save - 1 points

Territory Control, aka Control Point, aka Command Point, aka Domination, is a game type where each team vies for control of a series of points found scattered throughout the map. Points can be captured by players carrying their team's flag touching the command point base. Carrying a flag may or may not slow down the player depending on the map-maker's decision. Some maps like warpath (sequential) don't even have flags -- anybody can capture points. Teams score a point every x seconds for each control point they hold. Holding a large number of points obviously builds a larger score. Teams can score a decisive advantage by capturing 100% of the control points for a sizeable points bonus. If this should occur, the map will either reset and everyone will respawn & get ready to go again, or the points will simply pass into neutral ownership, ready to be captured once more.

Some control point maps allow an objective in either team's base to be destroyed by a detpack, thus causing all control points held by that team to become neutral. This feature is pretty much useless in today's TF gameplay, so it should be replaced with something useful. Suggestions include a points bonus, or turning all held points over to the enemy team -- good enough in many situations to force an instant all-cap for the detonating team.

Types of Territory Control
* Parallel. Each point is indepedently held and can be captured or lost by the attacking or defending team respectively.
* Sequential. Each point must be captured in a linear fashion. To capture point three, you must have control of point two. To capture point four, you require point three and so on. Each point has a short delay after being captured before it is available for transfer into the other team's ownership (to stop points changing hands repeatedly). Capturing 100% of the points in a fraction of a second is possible by placing a friendly player on all enemy held points. Sequential Territory Control is a much more cat & mouse game, as things can change in an instant (as a team can go from holding four points to zero points in a matter of a few seconds).

CTF is a very simple game type. Each of the potential four teams has a flag. An enemy player can take the flag and capture it in their own base's capture point to score an arbitrary number of points for their team and receive a personal bonus for the capture .

Pretty much everything is arbitrary in its value. Flag return time, whether the flag is returned on touch, whether the flag will return faster from certain areas, points awarded and so forth.

Plenty of Capture The Flag Variants exist. See the linked page for information.

Typical values
* Flag returns after 60 seconds regardless of position
* 10 team points per capture
* 10 personal points per capture

The object of detonation is to reach a high-profile objective and destroy it via the use of a detpack. UncleBRUCE made NML3 using this game concept, and I thought it was very interesting to play. It would probably work better using an Attack & Defend method (one team tries to det the objective, the other protects it) and then swap over after 15 mins. The team with the most dets after a few mini-rounds wins the game. Scouts and detpacks would be limited on either side, operating as 'special' teams (possibly even allied, so blue would be defenders, yellow would be scouts allied to blue defenders, red would be attackers and green would be demomen allied to red attackers).

This is done Attack & Defend style, but the object is not to damage something or capture an item; the objective is to escape via a predetermined exit to score points for your team. Once a certain limit has been reached, or 15 mins have passed, the teams swap (i.e. the escapees become the enforcers and vice-versa) and the best team after 30 mins wins.

Scoring could be altered so that escaping scouts are worth less than the heavier classes, and civilians are worth 20 points. :D
Plenty of good ideas here imo.

Either (or one nominated) team has an objective to protect. The other team can cause damage to that objective, thereby either increasing their score, or causing some kind of decrease in the available resources the other team has remaining until the resources are depleted. This could happen simultaneously (think CTF but with objectives to damage on either side) or Attack & Defend style (one team protects their base for 15 mins, then the team swap and whoever defended best wins after the two mini-rounds). Lots of potential here for double damage modifiers where a spy has to get through to a switch and take some shielding down, enabling his teammates to do more damage to the target.

Could even do it so that a detpack can totally ruin the other team's objective in one hit, but it's very hard to do.
