I was thinking about making a TF2 Player's Guide to FF. Do you think that would be helpful? I'm sure there's plenty of people that play TF2 that haven't played TFC or don't remember a lot about TFC. --Hirohito 18:47, 30 December 2007 (CST)
:Yeah definitely, a TF2->FF guide would be very good to have.

Class Changes
Scout
* Caltrops have been removed in favor of the Jump Pad. This device allows allies to get a quick boost of speed.
* He takes halved fall damage.

Sniper
* Sniper rifle 'tags' enemies so that your teammates can see them behind walls.
* Legshots are more powerful with low charge.

Soldier
* Rockets speed and impact area size increased.
* Secondary fire switches between the RPG and Super Shotgun.
* Instead of a nail grenade, soldiers in FF have a grenade that fires deadly lasers.

Demoman
* Detpack is now in the sixth weapon slot.
* Blue grenades detonate much faster, making them an effective close-quarters weapon.

Medic
* The medkit infections no longer spread between enemies.
* Infections now wear off after a certain time, and cannot kill an enemy.
* If an infected person is cured, he will be immune to infection for 10 seconds.
* Secondary fire will now throw medkits to heal at a distance.

HWGuy
* Instead of a MIRV grenade, HWGuy has a Slowfield grenade that quickly slows down enemy players within a radius
* Secondary fire will use an ability called "overpressure" that he can use to knock back enemies that get too close.

Pyro
* The flamethrower does more damage.
* Flamethrower has a pushback effect for the Pyro and can be used as a jetpack if the player is facing down while firing it.
* The IC projectile now acts more as a mortar, can be used for long-range bombardment.
* Damage from the flamethrower, IC, and the napalm grenade now stack to do extra damage.
* Secondary fire switches between the Flamethrower and IC.

Spy
* Spies can either cloak or feign and cloak, and they can move around while cloaked to a limited degree. An unmoving cloaked Spy is completely invisible, where as when moving, you are not.
* Spies can sabotage buildings by going up to them, then selecting 'Sabotage' from the radial menu (secondary fire). Sentry guns are turned onto their own team, and then explode, where as dispensers are detonated (which can cause some friendly fire incidents).
* Spies can fall greater distances without making a noise.
* Gas grenades have been removed.

Engineer
* Sentries and dispensers are now selectable in the weapon slots.
* Sentry Guns can be aimed at whatever the crosshair is pointing at.
* The Rail Gun can be charged up and now fires a bouncing projectile that becomes more powerful with each bounce. It also ignores armor.
* If charged for 3.333 seconds, the Rail Gun will give the user 40 cells.

Weapon Changes
* Nails travel faster than before.
* Explosion range on many weapons has been reduced (the exact amount differs between weapons)

Movement changes
* Bunnyhopping no longer requires a script or mousewheel to time jumps; simply press and hold the jump key to jump repeatedly.
* You can now double jump to greater heights by jumping off the floor twice in quick succession.
Weapon Summary
Melee Weapons
Melee weapons are for hand-to-hand combat, used at close range.

Crowbar
This weapon is the default melee weapon for all classes that do not have their own special melee weapons. Currently it is equipped to the Scout, Sniper, Soldier, Demoman, HWGuy, and Pyro classes.

See Weapon:Crowbar for more detail.

Medkit
This weapon is only equipped to the Medic class. It has two functions, both activated by the primary fire key. When used on a member of an allied team, it heals that team member back to full health, or if they already have full health, it will overheal them. It can also heal infections dealt by an enemy medic. When used on a member of the enemy team, it infects that player, dealing damage until they die, unless they are healed by a medic from their own team. Being healed from an infection also renders that player immune from re-infection for a few seconds.

Pressing the secondary fire key as a Medic will throw medkits onto the ground, which heal less health than the weapon, and cannot overheal.

See Weapon:Medkit for more detail.

Spanner
The Spanner (a wrench) is only equipped to the Engineer class. It's primary function is to repair and rearm Sentry Guns and Dispensers as well as upgrade SG's.

It can also be used to repair a teammates armor.

See Weapon:Spanner for more detail.

Knife
This is the melee weapon equipped to the Spy class. It has the special capability of being able to backstab, an attack that deals lethal damage to an enemy, and if the first backstab attempt hits, the spy instantly disguises as whomever they killed.

See Weapon:Knife for more detail.

Umbrella
This is the only weapon equipped to the the Civilian class. It works the same as the crowbar, however, on some maps it's damage is increased for gameplay purposes.

See Weapon:Umbrella for more detail.

Bullet Weapons
Bullet weapons are weapons that have no visible projectiles, and apply damage instantaneously via one or more bullets fired with a randomized spread pattern. All bullet weapons (apart from the Sniper Rifle and the Auto Rifle) use shells as ammunition.

Pelletgun
The Pelletgun is a weapon of the Scout, Soldier, Demoman, Medic, HWGuy, and Pyro classes. It deals a fairly small amount of damage, and is moderately effective at long range, but fires faster than the Weapon:Super Shotgun.

See Weapon:Pelletgun for more detail.

Super Shotgun
The Super Shotgun is the heavier but shorter ranged double-barreled cousin of the Pelletgun. It is equipped to the Soldier, Medic, HWGuy, Spy, and Engineer classes. It does a considerable amount of damage, but is not very effective at a distance. It also uses 2 shells per shot, so remember to resupply every now and again, or you'll be left with no ammo.

See Weapon:Super Shotgun for more detail.

Sniper Rifle
The Sniper Rifle is a very formidable weapon in the hands of a skilled Sniper (the only class that can use this gun). The sniper rifle is perfectly accurate, and charges up when the trigger is held down, for up to seven seconds. It can almost always kill any class in a single shot when fully charged. A hit to the leg reduces the damage done, but cripples the target and reduces their movement speed. A hit to the head increases damage, and is almost always fatal, even if not fully charged. Additionally, if you hit a target and yet they survive, they are then tagged with a transmitter that will show allied team members team where they are, even through walls or when cloaked as a spy, if within a certain range. The Sniper's movement speed is greatly reduced when the Sniper Rifle is charged or charging.

See Weapon:Sniper Rifle for more detail.

Auto Rifle
The Auto Rifle (or AR) is the other main weapon exclusive to the Sniper class. It is a fully automatic rifle, doesn't need reloading, is fairly accurate at a distance, and does a good amount of damage. It's biggest downside is that it uses ammunition quite quickly, and that ammunition is the same as used in the Sniper Rifle! If you use all your ammo with the Auto Rifle, you won't be able to shoot again until you get resupplied.

See Weapon:Auto Rifle for more detail.

Assault Cannon
The Assault Cannon (sometimes called an AC) is the primary weapon of the HWGuy. It has a high rate of fire and can do quite a bit of damage, but is not terribly effective at range. Additionally, when firing it reduces the HWGuy's movement speed to a crawl. If you hold the trigger down, this gun will fire more rapidly. Lastly, even a large number of shells disappears quickly when using the Assault Cannon. Staying near an resupply area, Dispenser, or friendly Engineer is recommended.

See Weapon:Assault Cannon for more detail.

Projectile Weapons
Projectile weapons are weapons that fire a physically modelled, visible projectile. They do not travel instantaneously. The type of projectile varies, and include nails, grenades, rockets, flaming rockets, and fire.

Nailgun
The Nailgun is a weapon equipped to the Scout, Sniper, and Spy classes. This gun fires a stream of Nails that do not fall as they travel, making it very accurate. It has limited effectiveness against moving targets, since these Nails take a certain amount of time to reach the target. However, it is an excellent weapon to destroy , , and may be useful against camping Snipers, Spies, or slow-moving HWGuys.

See Weapon:Nailgun for more detail.

Super Nailgun
The beefed up brother of the Nailgun, the Super Nailgun is exclusive to the Medic. While it's limitations are similar to the regular Nailgun, it's increased damage makes them less of a problem. It can wipe out in seconds, and can be effective against camping Snipers (especially if they are not looking your way). If you keep your movement quick and your aim steady, it can be a fairly dangerous weapon in a close range firefight as well.

See Weapon:Super Nailgun for more detail.

Railgun
The Railgun is a weapon of the Engineer class, and uses Nails for ammunition. While the Super Shotgun is usually better in a firefight, the Railgun is a formidable weapon as well. The Railgun is capable of charging up (by holding the trigger), and when released it fires a powerful bolt that unerringly travels toward it's target. This bolt of energy isn't super quick, so a moving target may be a bit tricky to hit, but a stationary one can be easy picking. The fully charged shot bypasses armor completely, and can pack quite a wallop. Additionally, the Railgun can be fired downwards with a well-timed jump to boost an Engineer into a spot they otherwise would not be able to get to. Lastly, the Railgun shot can bounce off several walls, and actually get more powerful in the process.

See Weapon:Railgun for more detail.

Tranquilizer Gun
The Tranquilizer Gun (sometimes just called the Tranq) is equipped to the Spy class. It used Nails as ammunition, but has a special feature. It's low-noise shot travels with perfect accuracy, and on contact with the enemy it them. Tranquilized enemies have obscured vision and reduced movement speed until the effect wears off. It can be enough time to get activate your cloak and hide somewhere safe.

See Weapon:Tranquilizer Gun for more detail.

Rocket Propelled Grenade
The Rocket Propelled Grenade, usually referred to by its acronym as an RPG, is a devastating heavy weapon of the Soldier class. It fires medium speed, but highly accurate Rockets that travel without dropping, straight at your target. The RPG can fire four rockets close together in a burst, before you need to pause and reload. The blast damage of a near miss can cause considerable damage itself, and can push the enemy around in ways that can be useful. Pushing the enemy player into the line of fire of an (or off a convenient cliff if you are as lucky) is a common tactic for a good Soldier. The RPG can also be used for Rocket Jumping, a great way to boost yourself to inaccessible places.

General
* There is a large emphasis on movement/speed (see Movement Skills and Jumping Skills)

* Not all weapons/classes are good at killing players (things like the Pelletgun and Nailgun are very weak)

* All classes strike a balance between killing power and overall speed (Scout is very fast but can barely kill anything, while the HWGuy is very slow but is very good at killing things)

* There are grenades usable for every class. There are two: a frag grenade for every class (except the Scout) and a "special" one that has a unique trait (like shooting lasers or blowing up nearby ammunition.).

* There is no store, and there are no items. ( No hats, miscs, etc. )

* There are no loadouts, and there are more than 3 weapon slots. However, melee weapons still have their own slot.

* Base run speed is higher for all classes.

* Respawn is instant.

* Each class has armor, and the amount of it and the percent of damage absorbed depends on the class. See the Class Reference for details.

* Critical Hits are not in the game.

* If a player dies, a backpack is left behind that contains all the ammo he had when he died.

* Resupply rooms consist of backpacks containing supplies, instead of supply lockers. In addition, these backpacks must respawn. What's in the backpacks is determined by the map maker.

* You can Bunny Hop in FF to get to places quicker.

* You can discard unused ammo for others to use, or to decrease the damage taken from an EMP Grenade.

* There are Yellow and Green teams that are used on some maps.

* Much less emphasis on Capture Point maps than in TF2.

* Attack vs Defend maps are further split into 4 categories: Attack v Defend, Invade v Defend, Attack v Defend the Zone, Invade v Defend the Zone.

* In Attack Defend / Invade Defend maps, the Capture Points can only be captured by a player holding the flag. As soon as a flag carrier touches the point, the CP will be captured, as it is also instant.

Weapons
* There are two types of shotguns: A low-powered pelletgun and a Super Shotgun. The Super Shotgun takes up two bullets per shot, where as the pelletgun only takes one. However, the Super Shotgun deals a lot more damage than the Pelletgun.

* There is a Nailgun in the game which fires a constant stream of bullets.

* Only the Medic, Spy, Engineer, and Civilian have their own melee weapons. Everybody else has a Crowbar.

Classes
Scout
* The FF Scout is much more movement based, with almost no firepower. The FF Scout is more focused on capturing objectives.

* The double jump TF2 skill is replaced by a much more powerful concussion grenade ability.

* A Scout can remove a Spy's disguise or disable a Detpack if he touches them.

* He can build a Jump Pad that can give anybody an extra speed boost.

Sniper
* The Sniper Rifle is no longer a bolt-action weapon like in Team Fortress 2. It must be charged up by holding down the fire button, rather then simply being zoomed in. You also must charge it up slightly before you can take a shot.

* The SMG is replaced with an automatic rifle that uses the same ammunition as the Sniper Rifle. The Sniper is also equipped with a nailgun.

* The Sniper 'tags' enemies he hits, so all his teammates can see the enemy through walls.

Soldier
* The Rocket Launcher has been changed from TF2. Now you can fire more rockets in a shorter amount of time, and rocket damage does not decrease over distance.

Demoman
* Pipebombs are not sticky (they bounce until they come to rest), which means they can be placed from a lot further away, bounced around corners, and used as a long range deathmatching weapon.

* The Grenade and Pipe Launcher share a magazine.

* Blue grenades detonate a lot faster than in TF2 - they are used as more of a close range combat weapon rather than a long range weapon.

* Has a special weapon called a Detpack that can be set to explode after a certain amount of time and is the most powerful weapon in the game.

* He's not scottish or black. He has a eye patch though, :D.

Medic
* The Medic in FF is more of a combat medic, specialising in movement, recon and firepower - rather than focusing strictly on healing. He can be a formidable force on his own, and does not require so much protection from his teammates.

* To heal, use the Medic's healing weapon, the Medkit. It must be used on an ally at point-blank range, which will heal the target to 100% of his health instantly. You can also throw medkits by pressing alternate fire (Default is your Right Mouse Button). Note that you do not have to have the medkit out to throw them, and that thrown medkits heal much less than ones.

* If used on an enemy, the Medkit can infect enemies with a virus.

* Much like the Scout, the Medic can concjump.

Heavy
* While no serious changes to gameplay, he is called "HWGuy" instead of just "Heavy".

* You cannot rev the minigun without firing it. Secondary fire will use Overpressure instead.

* Overpressure stops every enemy within its radius. Good for stopping quick players in their tracks.

Pyro
* Has a rocket launcher called the Incendiary Cannon that can light enemies on fire. However, the rocket begins to fall to the ground after launch, traveling in an arc. You may find it in a way similar to the Flare Gun.

* Instead of simply 'being on fire', enemies can be burn level 1, 2 or 3, depending on how many different flame weapons you hit them with. See the On Fire article for more details.

* The Flamethrower can be used as a jetpack. Face down, jump and hold down the fire button. If you keep it down for too long, you'll start to head back to the ground.

* The flamethrower cannot airblast. Secondary fire will just change weapons.

Spy
* Has a tranquilizer gun instead of a revolver. This slows the enemy, blurs his vision, and makes him a nice easy backstab target. He is also equipped with the Nailgun and Super Shotgun.

* If a Spy makes a successful backstab, his disguise changes to the person he just killed.

* Sapping, or as it's called in FF: 'Sabotaging', a buildable is a bit different. Instead of having a weapon slot, you simply stand near a building for a few seconds to sabotage it. When you successfully sabotage a building, you need to first "Activate" it. For a dispenser, it simply blows up. For a Sentry Gun (SG), it makes a distinct sound, and starts firing at whatever the team the engineer that built the SG is on. It also stops firing at your own team, and after a little while, it blows up.

* The Spy has two types of cloaks: Silent Cloak and Normal Cloak. The Normal Cloak causes a body to be left behind, making it look like the Spy died (or who they are disguised as). The Silent Cloak cannot be used while moving, but it allows the Spy to just simply cloak, without the body or death sound. By default, you must use your radial menu to select 'Smart Cloak', then, if you can Silent Cloak, it will, else, it will Normal Cloak.

* The Spy makes no noise when walking.

* The weapon the Spy has equipped is reflected on his disguise. E.g.: If a spy is disguised as an Engineer and is holding the knife, to others, he will be holding the Wrench. This makes backstabs that little bit harder, as a teammate with a melee weapon is a bit of a giveaway.

* If the Spy is disguised he will look like his disguise to his teammates as well. However there is a sign above his head to indicate he is on your team.

* If the Spy falls down, he will make no noise and takes 50% damage from the fall when you crouch.

* The Spy's special abilities are done via a menu accessed by hitting the Secondary Fire key. (default: Right Mouse Button)

* Much like the Scout, Spies can reveal other spies disguises by touching them.

* Cloaking never runs out, however, there is a small delay after uncloaking before you can cloak again.

Engineer
* Destroying, dismantling, building and aiming are all available as options on the right click (alternate fire) menu.

* Upgrading SGs only takes 1 hit with the wrench, and only 130 metal.

* The sentry can be aimed in any direction once built (including up / down) by hitting Secondary Fire (default: Right Mouse Button).

* The Engineer cannot make teleporters.

* An Engineer can repair a teammate's armor by hitting the ally with the wrench.

* You do not get alerted when a spy has sabotaged your SG, only when they activate it.

* If one of your buildings is sabotaged ( even if it's not enabled ), you will be unable to detonate it.

* Sentries make sonar sounds when a cloaked Spy is near it. The closer a Spy is, the higher the pitch, and the louder it will be.

* When an engineer discards ammo, he will throw ammo he uses out too. He can also throw multiple bags, each removing a little bit more ammo.

* The Pistol is replaced with the Railgun, which can charged up. If charged for 3.3 seconds, the Engineer will receive 40 metal.

* The Dispenser gives armor and ammo, but not health.

* Dispensers can absorb ammo from backpacks.

* When a dispenser is detonated, the damage it deals is based on what it contains. Cells increase damage, rockets increase explosive damage and radius.

Civilian
* Special class with little health and only a Umbrella to protect himself with.

* However, maps which include the civilian can edit his speed, weapons, damage, etc.

Competitive Play
Fortress Forever competitive play differs in 4 major ways to TF2:

# Speed
# Defensive strategy
# Focus on movement
# Individual ability

Fortress Forever is much faster than TF2, and players have stricter positions. In TF2 both teams move around the map pushing each other back in a kind of tug-of-war; in FF the defending team creates a defensive strategy and then tries to hold their base against the oncoming attacking team. FF is more structured and static, having players with expertise defending particular choke points in maps and creating a defensive strategy together as to how to defend their base.

Fortress Forever is typically played Capture-the-flag, with teams being split into Offense and Defense. Defenders typically have "positions" at key choke points in their base which they are expected to hold down, stopping attackers getting past and relaying information about those that do to their teammates. Competitive play typically has 4 defenders and 4 attackers, either in a 4v4 (swapping sides at half time) or 8v8 format (with each team having 4 attackers and 4 defenders).

Most high level play splits 4 defenders into 2 lines of defense - front line (2 players) and back line (2 players), but this can depend on the map. Typically, an Engineer builds a sentry gun right at the back, covering the flag, because he is weak and needs defending whilst he builds. Often he has another player to help defend him - either a Demoman (with pipes (similar to "stickies") on the flag), or a Soldier, or an HWGuy.

Attacking in Fortress Forever is very much based on the various movement abilities: Conc-jumping, ramp sliding, wall-strafing, trimping, double jumping, sharking, air control, and bunny hopping. Frequently Fortress Forever attackers are more concerned with getting past their opponents than killing them. This leads to great fun for both teams as defenders rack up kills and attackers pull off sweet moves.

In Fortress Forever, there is a balance between relying on your team, and shining as an individual. Some defensive positions are played solo, for those "lone wolf" types, and some have a greater emphasis on teamwork (such as defending the flag room with 1-2 other players). It's possible to capture the flag on your own, if you show some outstanding skill, but it is much easier with a good team backing you up. There is much less frustration if you have a bad team - there is no yelling at the medic, like TF2.
Pyro
| classintro =
A fireman gone horribly wrong, the Pyro is the chaos-causer of Fortress Forever. He carries a multitude of flame-based weapons to set enemies alight and burn them to death.

The Pyro's main weapon is the flamethrower. It pumps out a continuous stream of flames and has a huge ammo reserve; allowing the Pyro to harass and control areas for extensive periods of time. He also packs an incendiary cannon and napalm grenades to complete his fiery repertoire. The main tools of a good Pyro are harassment and confusion. On offense, he can keep enemies preoccupied while the faster, more mobile classes make their way to the objective untouched.

| changesinfo =
Actually useful.

Incendiary Cannon rockets are affected by gravity, and their slow pace makes them closer to mortars than RPGs.

IC + Napalm jumps are a bit trickier to time, but grant much better propulsion.
| basicstrategy =
* Hit enemies with your Incendiary Cannon, then zigzag towards them and attack them with your Flamethrower for maximum burn damage.
* Pyro Jump: use your Flamethrower and Incendiary Cannon to get to otherwise inaccessible locations.
Since the addition of flame damage stacking, these are arguably the Pyro's main grenade. He spawns with 2 every life, so make good use of them. A Napalm Grenade has an initial explosion that deals substantial damage and then a bunch of flaming balls (for lack of a better word) scatter around the ground where the grenade exploded. These deal continued damage over time and light any enemy that walks through it on fire.
Offensive Pyro
* You should primarily focus on killing and harassing defenders to clear the way for your teammmates, but don't be afraid to take the enemy flag of the opportunity arises.
* You're one of the worst classes against the Sentry Gun. If you can't get close enough to circle-strafe a Sentry with your Flamethrower, your only option is to use Frag Grenades.
* Watch out for EMP Grenades, they will instantly kill a Pyro with a fully loaded Flamethrower.
* Use Napalm Grenades in confined spaces to cause maximum disruption.
* Remember the Flamethrower and IC are powerful movement tools.
Defensive Pyro
* Stay outside the flag room and try to land hits on passing attackers with both your Flamethrower and IC, to cause level 2 burn and make it easy for your teammates to finish them off.
* You're most effective against slower classes such as Soldiers and Demomen. Consider switching to another class if the enemy has a lot of Scouts.
Playing Against a Pyro
* Because he carries a lot of cells, an EMP Grenade will leave a Pyro extremely wounded if it doesn't instantly kill him.
* The Pyro has no reliable anti-Sentry weapons. A well-placed Sentry in the flag room is a good defense against all classes, but especially Pyros.
* As a Soldier or Demoman, try to knock him back with rockets or grenades.
* As a Medic, hit him with your Super Shotgun while retreating. If he manages to close the distance, pull out your Medkit and try to infect him as he burns you with his Flamethrower.
* The Pyro's flame weapons are totally useless in deep water.
* The Medic's Medkits will instantly extinguish burning teammates.
Medic
| classintro =
Arguably the Scout's bigger, stronger, brother, the Medic is often considered the main offensive class in Fortress Forever due to the balance he strikes between speed, manoeuvrability, and firepower. Like the Scout, the Medic is able to conc jump, but he also has a decent arsenal of weapons and greater health and armour. This comes at a cost to his speed, though he is still the second fastest class in the game. While he is able to heal allies, this is very much a secondary role to his versatility as a flag runner and attacker.
| changesinfo =
Healing a teammate of infection now renders them immune to infection for a short time.

Offensive Medic
* Remember your primary objective is to grab the flag, not to heal or fight.
* Full health Soldiers, HWGuys, and Pyros can survive a lot of shots from your Super Shotgun. Use concjumping to get past them.
* Use your Super Nailgun and Frag Grenades to take down Sentry Guns.
* You spawn with only two conc grenades, however you can get a third if your respawn room has a grenade bag.
* Press mouse2 to throw Medkits at wounded allies, allowing them to survive for longer.

Defensive Medic
* The Medic is a very poor defensive class. The team will benefit a lot more from a Soldier, HWGuy, or Engineer.
* Heal allies during moments of downtime.
* Use your speed to harass attackers and chase enemies running away with the flag.

Playing Against a Medic
* Medics don't have very strong armour. Two rockets will usually be enough to kill them.
* The same strategy applies as when playing against Scouts. Practice aiming while under the effects of a concussion grenade, and learn to recognise and listen for the sounds of a conc grenade being primed and going off.
* Don't underestimate the Medic's Super Shotgun and Frag Grenades: they'll kill you very easily if you're wounded.
Heavy Weapons Guy
| classintro =

Although he looks slow and stupid, the Heavy Weapons Guy is an expert in the use of... heavy weapons. He carries a huge gun known as the assault cannon. It has a 200 round clip and slices through enemies like butter. While the recoil of firing such a weapon would probably kill lesser classes, the HWGuy is able to withstand it easily. However, the recoil is still rather powerful and firing the assault cannon does cause the HWGuy to slow down considerably. The gun is most effective at close to medium range, and quickly loses accuracy at long range. Due to the combined weight of his weaponry, armor, and self, the HWGuy moves very slowly.

Since he likely carries well over 200 pounds of gear (and is slightly overweight himself), the HWGuy is hard to push around with explosions. This makes the HWGuy effective at defending choke points. Since he can't easily be knocked out of them, the enemy has usually no choice but to either die to assault cannon fire or retreat. If you want to be an impenetrable (and deadly) wall, the HW Guy is the class for you.
| basicstrategy =
* Find a good defensive spot, and use the Assault Cannon to destroy any enemies you see!
* Watch out, as you are almost immobile while your Assault Cannon is wound up.
* Use Overpressure and slowfield grenades to slow down enemies and control the battlefield.
}}
| strategyandtips =
Defensive HWGuy
* Movement isn't your strong point. Find a good position and stay in it.
* You rely on your armour as well as your health in order to stay alive. Use Dispensers to replenish your armour, or call for a friendly Engineer to repair your armour by holding "Z" and selecting from the menu.
* If you get hit by a concussion grenade, ignore your crosshair and aim using your AC's bullet trail instead.
* Watch your back: your immobility while firing your Assault Cannon makes you a prime target for Medics' infections and Spies' backstabs.
* Use Overpressure and Slowfield to control the fight. Fast-moving enemies will often go right past you otherwise.
* When the flag is out, you can be something of an impromptu Demoman. Stand on the flag and use Slowfields/Overpressure to stop enemies from running away with it.

Offensive HWGuy
* You're the slowest class in the game, so you take a long time to get to the enemy base after respawning. Your slow speed also makes you vulnerable to grenades and Snipers.
* Leave capturing the flag to faster classes; focus on killing defenders so they can get through.
* You're very slow while firing your Assault Cannon. Use your Super Shotgun if you need mobility.

Playing Against an HWGuy
* While the HWGuy is firing the Assault Cannon, he can't dodge explosives. Peek out from behind cover and hit him with a grenade or rocket.
* A distracted HWGuy is a good target for backstabs and infections.
* Be careful not to get hit by Overpressure or Slowfields.
Soldier
| classintro =
The Soldier is the second most heavily armored class in Fortress Forever. A retired army weapons specialist, the Soldier still carries his favorite weapons with him as mementos. The rocket launcher is his primary weapon; it's capable of holding four fast-firing rockets at a time. The Soldier is essential to base defense (both front-line and last-line). The rocket launcher's stopping power makes the Soldier an excellent close-quarters fighter; he does best in small hallway and areas where the enemy cannot easily dodge his attacks. Though he's weaker out in the open, the Soldier sports a pelletgun and super shotgun for ranged attacks. The Soldier's combination of weaponry, military training, and overall rough personality make him an excellent choice for the player who wants to frag lots of enemies and keep the base safe.
| basicstrategy =
* The Soldier is a very versatile class. Use your Rocket Launcher to stop attackers, or to punch a hole in the enemy defense. Aim for the feet!
* Use your Super Shotgun to finish off enemies if you don't have time to reload your Rocket Launcher.
After the grenade countdown ends, it jumps up and begins spinning. While spinning, it will fire powerful short-range lasers. After the lasers expire, the grenade disappears without exploding. It is used as an area denial tool in tight spaces as anyone who runs through it will receive a large amount of damage. If you're defending a tight space but you need to run to get health, leave a laser grenade to guard the area for a few seconds.
}}
| strategyandtips =
* The Soldier's Rocket Launcher is easiest to aim at close ranges, though if you can lead targets well it can be effective at longer ranges too.
* The Rocket Launcher's knockback can be used to push enemies into hazards such as a sentry gun's firing line, or to "juggle" them, making them easier to hit with the Super Shotgun or a second rocket.
* The Soldier has very large ammo reserves, and so should never worry about running out. However, keeping your Rocket Launcher and Super Shotgun fully loaded when not in use is vitally important.

Defensive Soldier
* Stay in one spot, preferably near a resupply bag or spawn room, so you can quickly recover lost health and armour.
* Use your Super Shotgun to finish off lighter attackers after you've hit them with a rocket.
* The Rocket Launcher is one of the most difficult weapons to learn to aim while concussed.
* Don't pursue fleeing attackers. You're not fast enough to catch them, and often they'll run right back past you.

Offensive Soldier
* The Soldier is often considered too slow to be an effective offense class.
* Remember that firepower, not speed, is your strong point. You should focus on damaging and distracting the enemy defense so Scouts and Medics can slip through unhindered.
* Your Rocket Launcher and Nail Grenades are extremely effectively against Sentry Guns.
* If you grab the enemy flag, throw it to a faster teammate by pressing "C".

Playing against a Soldier
* Pyros are excellent against Soldiers, as are Demomen at slightly longer range. Soldiers are also prime targets for Snipers due to their slow speed.
* Soldiers excel in confined spaces with lots of cover, by contrast, their weapons are a lot less useful in large open areas.
* The Soldier's weakness is his long reload times. The best time to attack is when his Rocket Launcher needs reloading.
* As a Medic, concjumping past a Soldier is a better idea than engaging him directly, unless he's considerably weakened. Scouts should never even think about engaging in combat.
The remote detonation pipe bombs make the Demoman excellent at defending important areas. His weapons have a lot of explosive power, the trade-off being a lack of serious armor, moderately slow speed, and the fact that his Grenade Launcher requires practice to master.

Although he is primarily a defensive class, the Demoman can function in an offense role as well. Even though his health and armor are not the greatest in the game, the sheer power of his weapons puts the Demoman into the "heavy" category of offense: ideal for punching holes in a strong enemy defense to allow lighter attackers through.
| basicstrategy =
* Place your yellow pipe bombs on your team's flag to defend it. Detonate them when an enemy tries to touch it.
* Use blue grenades to defend yourself if attacked directly.
:See Class:Demoman/Strategy for more information.
Defensive Demoman
* Make sure you have pipe bombs on the flag at all times.
* Remember your Grenade Launcher and Pipe Launcher share a single small clip.
* Enemy Scouts can be incredibly fast: good reaction time and the ability to pay close attention are important.
* Your pipe bombs explode when you die, and your low armour compared to that of the Soldier and HWGuy make you a juicy target for enemy Medics and Spies.
* Listen for the "click" sound of a Scout's conc grenade, so you can guess exactly when he'll hit your pipe trap.

Offensive Demoman
* Lay pipe traps around the enemy base, and try to lure defenders into them.
* Your MIRV Grenades are extremely deadly to Sentry Guns.
* Use your Detpack to open alternative routes for attackers to enter.
* The Pipe Launcher can be used as a movement tool. Lay a pipe on the ground and blow it up as you jump.
* Pipe jumping allows you to quickly traverse long distances and reach inaccessible areas, at a cost to health and armour.

Playing Against a Demoman
* He's only slightly better armoured than the Medic, and his pipe bombs explode when he dies.
* Getting right up in his face may make him hesitate to hit you with his grenades, at risk of killing himself.
* Keep an eye out for his yellow pipebombs.
* His MIRVs are incredibly destructive. Don't get caught in the centre of one.
* If you see an enemy Demoman drop a detpack, run away!
The Scout is the speed demon of Fortress Forever, focused on evading enemy defenses rather than attacking them. See the Concussion Grenade's article for more information on Conc Jumping.</p>
| strategyandtips =
Offensive Scout
* The Scout's greatest asset is his speed. Avoiding combat is the Scout's only viable option as every other class outguns him. Your purpose is to grab the flag, not to kill enemies!
* Even if the flag is heavily defended and you know you're going to die as soon as you touch it, touching the flag will reset the timer for it returning to the flag room. Touch the flag as often as possible to ensure that it never returns to its base.
* Bunnyhopping increases your speed from fast to insanely fast, if you learn to do it effectively.
* Build your Jump Pad to help your teammates get to the enemy base faster. It can also save you a conc.
* Use conc grenades to knock defenders away from their positions. Remember, however, that many players are able to aim while concussed.
* Fire your nailgun as you approach the flag room, in order to mask the "click" sound of your conc.
* Press "C" to throw the flag. If the enemy base has a security system, throwing the flag outside the security area will be enormously helpful to your team.
* Never lose sight of your ultimate goal: GRABBING THAT FLAG!

Defensive Scout
* Don't bother. As he has no effective weapons and the lowest health and armour in the game, the Scout has no defensive role in any circumstances.

Playing Against A Scout
* Scouts are the most dangerous enemies you will encounter as a defender. They can grab your flag and disappear with it in a tiny space of time.
* Scouts are very fast, but their speed is less of an advantage in confined spaces. On maps with few confined spaces, good accuracy is essential when trying to stop a Scout.
* Scouts have the lowest health and armour of any class; a couple of rockets, pipe bombs, or seconds of Sentry Gun fire will kill them without difficulty.
* Learning to aim accurately while concussed is tricky, but very helpful when dealing with Scouts.
* Listen for the distinctive grenade "click" sound. If it's coming from a Scout, it means that in four seconds' time, they're going to conc jump.
A regular shotgun. Used by the Scout, Demoman, Soldier, HWGuy, Medic and Pyro.
This weapon, when fired, shoots six bullets in a tight pattern.
| strategyandtips =
This is useful for picking off weak enemies, such as Scouts or horribly wounded enemies, or when the magazine in your primary weapon has been depleted and you don't have enough time to reload.

Unless you are a Scout, never use it as a primary weapon. It's far too weak to inflict significant damage on anything but a Scout.
