If I had children and was so worried about them viewing porn sprays on a mature video game, I'd make sure they didn't play it instead of going to the community and requesting a large number of adult players set aside their interests and habits for the benefit of one person and his children.

I'm probably the closest thing FF has to a spokesman, bein' the PR dude and what not. (Doomed! We're all dooooooomed!) But I'm not the official spokesman, so... yeah? This is my own opinion here and not necessarily that of the whole FF staff yadda yadda legalese shmegalese.

Many games nowadays have a content filter, including TFC and some other games. I don't know if we'd go so far with FF but taking the few minutes to code in a "shut off sprays" feature would be nice for the community.

I once posited on the D&A forums the perceived hypocrisy of [o-t]'s "no swearing" policy in such a violent game as a devil's advocate sort of exercise. My curiosity was satisfied in that thread regarding that matter.

Think of it this way: between these two film genres, which do you think more parents would have a problem with their 12 year old kid watching?

1) Horror
2) Porn

I can confidently say that most parents would say they'd have more of a problem with porn than horror.

As an aside, a lot of people are bitching on Quake Live about there being no blood. They perceive it as Quake being watered down to be more "family friendly" and write about the incredible irony of no blood in such a violent game. I don't think it's a good idea to take either side to the extreme - it's best to have a content filter option available for parents who want to use it.

Don't like swearing and bad sprays? You have the option to join [o-t], {NFO}, or any of the other servers with appropriate filters and many admins on hand.

But I do think having a content filter variable(s?) wouldn't be such a bad thing for parents in exactly this kind of situation.

im almost certain there is a cvar in ALL source engine games, use the console command "find playersprays" and it should come up with a command. If it isnt in there, then it's only orange box games

Optionally, as to what Scuzzy said, server admins can monitor their servers with this Spray tracer addon. It even seems to work with steambans.

Yes, sadly this doesn't solve the problem of people spraying it around, but the available admins can, in some way, react on what someone sprays!
