Developer Journal: Mulchman

Hi.

I've been playing with a couple of things. Firstly, L0ki and I have been trying to fix the grenade crashes and it's come down to a sprite error of some sort - it's really weird - but thankfully they're no longer crashing for ANYBODY (finally).

Secondly, I've messed with the sentrygun more. It's kind of at the point where I need our SG model working correctly to be able to continue to tweak it. I'm actually using VALVe's floor turret at the moment to mow down the bots*- it's quite fun.

Thirdly, the Detpack now has a variable timer so you can set 5 - 60 second detpacks.

Fourthly, collaborated w/ L0ki some more to get the death notices fixed when a Buildable Object (Dispenser, Detpack, Sentry Gun) kills someone. Now, the Buildable Object's owner gets the kill and the kill is reported correctly on screen and in logs.

* VALVe bots - not Dr.Evil's bots. These bots were added in a Source SDK update a while back. They just stand around and let me shoot them.

EDIT: Ooo, I just read Defrag's latest Dev Journal. Perhaps, instead of the beer fund (yes, I know, tragic to talk about removing such a thing), a "buy ME a new Athlon 64 computer fund"? Huh?! Yeah!?!?

I've been a-workin' on various things. During the last half week, I've had to do a crappy cash-in-hand boring 10-hour-a-day-snore-fest job. However, the dude I was working with looked like Rik Mayall, so it was all good.

My main focus over the last couple of days was pushing on with.. push, which I have done. I'd say it's roughly ~50% done now (though it's always tough to say) with mostly just detailing left to complete now. I've also been touching up bases and tippin' on fo-fos with spirit, but not so much lately.

I completed the first of one of our top secret projects, and another one will be completed by a different person next month. Also, Jon fell down a waterfall that is 70 feet tall and dislocated his left shoulder (no joke!). Just another day in the life of a trepid. At least it won't interfere with his hammer hand.

It's been a good time lately with the coders doing more work, and we've recruited a couple of new modelers to boot. Fooley Cooley will be having my babies shortly if I have my wicked way.

In other news: I finally got my RAM returned & refunded after speaking to OCUK again. I'm going Athlon 64 very soon! Mapping will never be the same again ;o

Finally getting paid, so I can fricking buy HL2 and compile this damn mod. Starting to work on a database component to the mod, since Phero is MIA. Playing around with firebird's C++ API..

I wish I had 48 hour days =(

We should really get this paypal <-> beer thing going. It's a great idea, right guys?

So yeah, this is basically a pointless Dev Journal but I really loved the idea of the paypal button contributing toward my weekend beer expenses. That's BRILLIANT!

And uh, I'm still working on the Sentry Gun. Our model in-game is FUBAR at the moment but VALVe's floor turret is tearing things up left and right. Someone with some 3ds Max bone knowledge could really help me out right about now (until we get a good animator). L0ki and I have collaborated a little to stop the grenade crashes (and he's fixed some class/team menu crashes - much thanks).

So yeah, don't wait! Donate now to the Fortress Forever beer fund where 1/4 of the profits go to Mulchman. The other 3/4 go to the trepids and schtoofa... like they really need the beer! Come on guys!
