Frequently Asked Questions
... some questions we've encountered often, put down for posterity.
Is this a direct port of TFC?
Strictly speaking, no, but we want to stick to the fast paced gameplay we love in TFC. Some have suggested we should concentrate on releasing a direct port as soon as possible and then make changes at a later date. The amount of work required for a direct port is quite high. Translating our new ideas in the main development cycle is more efficient, not to mention exciting. New players want a game worthy of Valve's Source engine, not a rehash just as easily done on HL1. Everything in the game is being remade by the team from scratch.
What is TFC, even?
The Wikipedia entry for Team Fortress Classic does an excellent job of explaining this question.
Do you need beta testers and should I enquire about it?
Please don't email us regarding beta testing. When the time comes, we will make an announcement.
Are you TFC players?
We all have been or still are TFC players. Some left the game for various reasons but we all have something to add with a Source update. Most of the team have been very active in driving the TFC community forward over the years. Our interests are the game's interests, at all levels. We're excited to re-build, inside and out, our all-time favorite game.
Is this an independent team?
100% yes (simply put: we have no association with Valve Software).
Is this MOD anything to do with TF2?
No. TF2 is an entirely seperate game from Valve. Fortress Forever is simply a continuation of Team Fortress Classic and other traditional TF mods. (Note: The latter URL shows the name as "TF1.5", but this was just a marketing rebrand of the TFC name. It later regained its original name of "Team Fortress Classic".)
What happens if Valve decides to release an official port of TFC for Half-Life 2? Will you guys stop developing FF?
Development will continue. The team is enjoying the challenge and feels Fortress Forever can be successful whatever the circumstances.
Will FF feature bunny-hopping?
Yes. While bunny-hopping will be featured, it will neither be the same as TFC's, nor will it be unrestricted. We have a solution that should please nearly everyone.

(Note: For those not acquainted with the technique, bhop it's basically a method of gaining momentum by turning in the air, taking advantage of the acceleration that occurs. In TFC there was a 170% speed-limit.)
Will bhop (bunny-hopping) be customizable server-side?
No. While we totally understand people's strong (and often polarized) views on bunnyhopping, allowing server operators to configure the bhop settings will be destructive to the MOD. TF communities are rather small these days compared to the Counter-Strikes of this world so we cannot afford to divide or dilute our potential player-base any further. It will also confuse new players if each server possesses the capacity to be different when it comes to movement.
Will the MOD contain the standard number of TF classes?
Yes. There will be ten classes including the civilian.
Will the MOD be CTF-only?
No. Other game types will be included.
Will FF include a gravity gun?
No. Tossing chairs around doesn't fit with core TF gameplay, giving the gravity gun any use in the MOD would create issues far beyond TF's scope. We want our players to consider their objectives, the flags, maybe learn to conc jump. That is where our focus will be.
I posted a message on your forum or emailed the team and have yet to receive a response!
Apologies, but we cannot possibly respond to every single message. We try to respond to all email (especially for recruitment purposes) but sometimes we do make the odd oversight. If you are awaiting a recruitment response and have waited longer than a fortnight (two weeks) for a reply, feel free to email us once more asking for a verdict on your application. Please understand we have a lot of applications to consider and it takes time to properly evaluate each applicant.
I've got this great idea, should I post it on the idea & suggestions forum?
Firstly, consider whether your idea is in keeping with the gameplay of traditional TF MODs. While we are open to suggestion, the more radical the idea, the tougher it is to envision it as part of our MOD. Secondly, search the forum to ascertain whether the same idea has already been posted. If it has, feel free to add your own perspective to the existing thread. If not, please feel free to post your suggestion. Please try to include some compelling reasons as to why you feel your suggestion should be considered.
Will the MOD feature the engineer's teleporter?
An emphatic, "No."
