To effectively use the Assault Cannon, fire it until it's almost overheated, release for a second, then fire again until it's almost overheated, and repeat. This will have the rate of fire at it's peak, allowing you to mow down attackers with ease, while keeping it cool. When you fire it, the overheat meter will appear on the bottom of your crosshair, making it easier to keep track of it.
